Posts: 102 | Last week a guy staying at the same resort as me in northern Wisconsin caught 15 muskies on spoons, Mepps #5 spinners and Mepps Musky Killers. The largest was 39". The last hour of light each day, he picked up a smaller rod with a Beetle Spin and caught crappies and walleyes. I would have never thought to throw a Beetle Spin for walleyes. I know there are some here who aren't interested in 39" and smaller fish. I like all muskies regardless of size. However, my point here is the lures that he used. Just shows that plenty of fish can still be caught on old school spoons, $6.00 #5 Mepps and $8.50 Mepps Musky Killers. Apparently you can't go wrong with a Beetle Spin for 97 cents to $1.49 either. How cool. Edited by madmurph 6/24/2019 11:41 AM

Posts: 2241 Location: SE, WI. | Old Timer, Old School. Caught many 3-5 lb eyes on Beetle Spins growing up. I'd count them down 12-18 ft depths, start a slow retrieve, eyes hammered them. Pike/ Bass/ Ski's eat them Toooooo!!! JD No Surprises Here! Get those spinners and Spoons close to A 50...she'll eat Too! Edited by jdsplasher 6/24/2019 3:44 PM

Posts: 3475 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | The beetle spin style is what we almost used exclusively way up in Manitoba. 1/4 oz orange jig head, brown with orange twister tail, beetle spin spinner. The walleyes were up in 6 - 8 feet of water at the time we were there, so it was an easy easy system. Steve

Location: Athens, Ohio | Me and Jimmy B were spending the week on Minnesota's beautiful Vermilion Lake. Not much luck with the muskies by mid-week, JB had boated a real nice pike on a 'dawg but shunned the Pikemaster Jimmy moniker. Anyway, we were passing an area when some folks in a fish n ski boat waved us over. Two ladies and two guys, one of whom was at the bow with his rod bent clear over. As we approached, they explained that they had drifted more than a quarter mile and he had fought this fish for the last 45 minutes. They had no net big enough and wanted to use ours. We watched as the angler would finally raise the fish to the boat, the ladies would see it and scream, and the fish would run again. We helped net it, I think ti was 43", and released it. When Jimmy unhooked it, a small walleye jig fell out of the corner of the fish's mouth. He'd been using a nightcrawler. I exclaimed, "You mean we have $5000 worth of muskie baits on this boat and all we needed was a five dollar bucket of worms?" I really had to admire the guy who was able to hang onto it that long, tho. m
