Posts: 8725 | After countless times of looking down and seeing a muskie sitting inches away from the trolling motor, we had one try to eat it a few years back. It swam off with a big white mark on top of it's noggin. So your idea might not be that far off. We had another suspect "prop eater" in Northern WI. We were putting along with the big motor between spots and heard this very loud *bonk* from the back of the boat. I said "#*#*, what did we just hit?!" My buddy said "well, I'd think it was a log or a reef or something, but we're in 35 feet of water." There was no sign of a fish, but what else could it have been but a fish? And we worry about lure selection...

Posts: 1023 | When I was young I had an older Minn Kota bow mount trolling motor on my little 14 foot lund. I don't know what it was about that unit, but it would get hit a few times a year. Big ole "clunk". Never knew what it was until I saw a musky next to it afterwards opening and closing it's mouth. Had a larger pike come up from weeds and hit that thing too. Haven't had it happen since I replaced that trolling motor. Thinking that one had a certain buzz in the water that made them overly curious. Funny...at the time, the old graph I ran would school bluegills up around it too. Kindda creepy to have a hundred pannies following your boat around. Made for an easy fish fry, though!

Posts: 1136 Location: NorthCentral WI | Looks like a Big Tom fish? Just such an awesome fish and too bad. I hope they enjoyed the steaks! It is some excellent eating fish, so I've heard. Better than leaving it for the turtles... Edited by MartinTD 8/2/2019 9:23 AM
