I am going to buy a spare prop for my Yamaha F150. I am going to use it at LOTW. I know a motor can still get damaged with an aluminum prop but I would rather bang up a cheap one if I make a mistake than my SS prop. My question is, should I order the same size as my SS? I am currently running a 19 x 13 3/4 SS and have been happy with the performance. It looks like Yamaha makes a 19 x 14 aluminum. The boat is an MX1825 if that makes a difference. Thanks

Hiya,

I would say that the 14 x 19 will be good. Might see a little higher rpms, but not by much as you are going up in diameter. It will slip a little more, so there is a good chance you may not be able to trim the motor as much as you might be able to with your steel prop.

Steve given the same 19" four blade aluminum prop what difference would you see between 14" and 13 " diameter.

Thankfully i made it through another day without algebra!

Hiya,

400 rpms would be roughly the difference overall. The 14" will have more thrust capability due to larger surface area.

The big thing to watch out for here would be hub size. The 13" diameter is usually the smaller hub (4" I believe) which fits many motors from 70hp up to 130hp, and the 14" diameter is roughly a 4-1/2" hub or 4-3/4" hub which fits 150hp up to roughly 225 or so depending on brand.

I used algebra today... Taking a course so I'm looking at a lot of higher algebraic concepts... Want to hear about it? Fulfill your day?
