I don't know about you guys, but it was my dad who took me fishing for the first time back in 1973.  He sat on the pier with me until I was old enough to be out there by myself.   He happily cleaned whatever I caught for years and years until I was old enough to handle a knife.    I took him muskie fishing a few times, and up North smallmouth fishing a few times.   We spent a lot of time down in FL doing charter trips in recent years.   Well, dad just went through some major heart surgery at the age of 77, and his fishin' days might be numbered.   Get Well, Dad.   We still got a lot of fishin' to do!!

I guessing most of started fishing with dad at a young age. I was fortunate enough to grow up fishing walleye on Mille Lacs and Leech as a child in their hey days with my father.
Dad was fortunate enough to retire at 56 on Mille Lacs for 27 years until his passing three years ago. Even after getting our own seasonal place on the lake, I wished I'd spent more time in the boat with him the last few years. Cherish your time together.

My Dad got me started fishing from as long as I can remember. Cherish those memories! I lost my Dad back in 1993 at the age of 73. We never got to take that last trip out together. We had it all planned when he was diagnosed with Leukemia, he only left the hospital to receive hospice at home and pass away. You never know what life and death has planned for you!

Those are some of the best memories I have of have of pops. Started us with Zebco's in late 60's form a leaky wooden row boat. We'd go to a cottage in Canada and he knew of a few small back woods lakes that got very little pressure (back then). I remember dad getting about a 38" pike and a few later about a 28" walleye I was astonished, and he had to net them himself because I didn't know how. We continued to fish up until about 5 years ago. Pops can't fish any more but our last trip together was a fly-in and he got the largest pike in his life and countless walleye. A nice way to wrap up our fishing days.

Yep, my dad started me fishing, then into musky fishing. He doesn't have the balance to musky fish any more but I try and get him in the boat for other fish. Here are a couple of 20 year old pics, anyone want to guess who he looks just like in the musky pic?

BTW, the bass went 6 3/4 pounds on a boga scale, that bait is 6" long.

Well...

Mitral valve repair, MAZE surgery to correct (hopefully) A-Fib. Some complications with heart rate, sodium, and platelets. He's out of ICU and recovering "as expected"

Not exactly fartin' rainbows over the outcome thus far, but doctors claim he's doing well "for a man his age" Whatever the F that means...

All the best to your dad. The fact he is out of ICU and recovering "as expected" is good news indeed. My wife had mitral valve repair in her 50's and she is doing great 12 years later.
