Ive been looking to get more into trolling this fall.. Ive always run jakes and believers. Curious what is everyones favorite trolling baits are for both summer and late fall.

Seems like a lot of guys are jumping on the headlock/ matlocks this year. What is the story with those? Really worth the $100 a peice? Do they really produce that many more fish than say a 10" jake?

My most productive trolling baits has been a 12” headlock, second best for me has been a 9” shallow raider....huge cost difference! More expensive doesn’t always mean more productive. I will say the headlock is far higher quality in my opinion.

12” Mattlocks & 12” Headlocks have accounted for a disportionate number of my trolling fish even running other baits. 10” Mattlock had a hot run last year too. 10” and 14” Jakes still produce. 10” Slammer minnows & shads also on my short list. Running baits from these three manufacturers has me covered. I only fish MN & Canada, guys fishing Other parts of the country will give you a completely different opinion.

SUPER T.

 Great answer.

Which is your favorite Believer...solid or jointed and what length?

I'm also interested in when you use solid vs jointed.   It would be great to know.

i use both straight and jointed. but i prefer the straight 8 inch. i never use the jointed one in late fall because it's time to move slower and deeper so the straight one is better for that reason. if you use the straight one during summer at the shallow setting it move almost like a jake but a lot more shallower, deadly
