Had a half day off yesterday so i picked up my 8 year old from grandmas house and headed to the lake. I rigged up one of my old casting combos for him ( he has used spinning gear up untill now) We arrived around 3pm and started the afternoon with a casting lesson and a figure 8 refresher. 40 minutes and about 15 backlashes later i started casting. Didnt take long and i stuck a nice fish in the 8. I told my boy to grab the net and it was at that point in time i realized that he has never netted a fish or had a fish netting lesson.... oh boy! So as im fighting the fish with one hand and positioning the net with the other i tell him hold it like this and when i say so scoop the fish. Well the netting process went quite well and he did a fine job. The fish bumped at 44.5, my biggest this season. After a quick picture and a refresher for my boy about fish handling responsibility we took a few minutes to practice with the net. We fished a few other spots without any sucess and he was loosing interest so we took a dinner and swim break. We got back to casting around 7pm. Around 8pm we were working a small weedbed when i had another fish follow up to the boat. She went around about 5 full 8s and i finally convinced her to eat when i hung it high on the outside. Another spectacular net job by Jr. And we had two on the board for the day. After a quick picture i let him release this one. By now he was pretty motivated and i was starting to feel bad so i drug my terrova pedal to the back of the boat, sat down and cracked a beer. I ran the boat and let him fish out front for the rest of the night. We didnt end up seeing any other fish.

We were on the water for about 6 hours but between teaching sesssions and the swimming break we really only fished about 3 hours. I was pretty stoked to land 2 mid 40s in such a short amount of time, and both in the 8.... cant beat that. I have had 2 and even 3 fish days before but nothing beats having my boy there and netting the fish for me.

One last thing, im not into swirling out the backgrounds of my pics and some may recognize a spot. If you do i just request that you keep it to yourself.

Almost thought that was the same fish in both photos for a second there. Lol. Congrats on the great day!! I couldn't think of anything better than leaving work early and going fishing with your boy, let alone stick two nice ones. Hopefully you can net one for him next time!

Those two fish look really long in the pictures. If you had told me they were 48 to 50 inches I would have easily believed you.
