This is only release tool I dont have and didnt even think about it until I saw guy using them on video the other day. Do you guys all use these? ARe they necessary or can you use other tools in boat? IF must have what do you guys recommend

Didnt realize they that cheap...any input on where to get them that are decent quality

Get the largest size. Buying two is a good idea as they seem to fly out of your hands and will sink quickly.

Location: mercer wi		I buy 99% of my stuff from musky shop. Usually there once a week. I like the baker brand. Bucher and tyrant I think have one aswell. I don't know of there's bass pros or cabelas in PA but they should have something too. Also, add a piece of line to it too. Sometimes of you don't get them in there just right they my slip out and you'll loose them

Putting a piece of foam pipe insulation into the circle on the one end will make it so they won't sink and it won't get in the way.

Location: Minnesota.		I have a longish small dia. cord tied to mine (largest model) w/a loop in one end for my hand. Never - had to use one tho 'cept for snot-rockets!

I have both the Baker & Tyrant jaw spreaders. The Tyrant is so much easier to use than the Baker. I no longer keep the Baker's in my box.

As important as any release tool. Years back, I got a new tackle box right before the season started. I thought I had transferred everything but I didn't. I learned of the error when I hooked a low thirties musky on a #5 Mepps on opening day. My son and I laughed over its tail walking but when I went to release I saw the hooks were down the gullet past the gills. No jaw spreader. This was my third fish of the day but the others were hooked in the jaw. I was able to reach in and unhook the one hook that was hooked up and it released strong but I had to stop fishing, clean my hand up and apply multiple small band aids to the numerous cuts. Had the fish been more seriously hooked, it probably would have died because of my inability to get at hooks. Like Slamr, I now carry two at all times.

Location: Chisholm, MN		I've used them a good amount. When fishing alone it can be really important and has saved more than a few fish lives for me. There are a lot of times, especially at night, when a fish gets a bucktail deep in it's throat. There isn't really a better way to do surgery.

Location: Madtown, WI		I find them especially useful when sucker fishing since you're dealing with just hooks instead of a hunk of wood that will keep the fishes mouth open.

I got one for $3 at local bait shop.

I bought mine from the Musky shop years ago. I just asked if they had a very large and sturdy pair as there are so many junky pairs out there. I Don't know if they were tyrant's but they were great jaw stretchers "large and heavy duty so as not to fall out of the fishes mouth" very useful when a treble is in the gill plate.
