Location: Belgium | when would you use either style of crankbait more often than the other?
I used to be very successful with jointed shallow running crankbaits when casting but fish became conditioned to these lures. Now I only catch fish on the JP-6 when trolling.
I just seem to catch a lot on straight lures and jointed lures don't get touched by pike |

| divani, for me it is somewhat dictated by water temp.
I'm guessing the reason that is, is because when the water temps are colder I am fishing a different type of structure and that is when I use the straight crankbait.
When the water temps are warmer and I am fishing weeds and wood I like to use the jointed crankbait. I know a lot of guys like the staight model crank for searching weed edges but I like the jointed.
I think most jointed cranks are a little less bouyant and the slower rise results in more strikes. Hope this helps, God bless.

Location: Bemidji, MN- | On most lures, straight for clear water, jointed for discolored or low light conditions (more noise and vibration). The exception is my jointed Believer which seems to work great in all light conditions. |

| Grandma 7 1/2" straight models twitched are my most successful lure in my box. Never caught a fish on a jointed musky lure. Don't use them much though. Confidence in the straight model has kind of made me shy away from jointed baits. Especially for casting. |

I like to use jointed at night or when I'm slow trolling also when I want a lot of noise or vibration.
The straight model shines for twitching. |

Location: Edina, MN | I have played this out on Great Lakes salmon where I run up to 15 lines at a time and the straight baits outproduce the jointed ones by a wide margin. I think its because they displace more water with each wiggle so they are easier for the fish to locate. The jointed baits look better to me but they sort of snake through the water as opposed to the more pulsing wiggle of a straight bait. The exception might be baits that really clack together as they move along like the Locomotive. |

Location: Belgium | do you think the condition of the water (clear or stained) has anything t do with your choise of crankbait? I like to use wide wobbling straight bodied lures anyway but in clear water I did well on a JP-6 while speedtrolling. I have used the same lure for casting clear water and I didn't even get a follow.
I also tried the baby depthraider in both styles: I catch fish on the straight model but not on the jointed one. I used both in both stained and clear water and I caught pike on the straight model in both clear and stained water
