Posts: 38 | I had a few days off last week and had a trip planned with a fiend to do an overnight float trip for muske on a river in the area. As you would know it , my buddy calls 2 days before and tells me he can't go. At that point I have all of the food and beverages purchased, and have arranged the shuttle with some guys in the area. Not going was not an option for me so an overnight solo float it was! The first day was the first warm up after the two coldest days of the year. After only 20- 30 min on the water I got my buctail caught in some submerged timber. Whn I paddled over, I could see a muskie looking at the buck tail. The muskie slowly swam off when it saw my raft, but didn't seem spooked. I tossed the buck tail in the direction the fish took off and sure enough her it comes, hot on the buck tail. The fish followed right into the figure 8 and after a few turns, ate the buck tail. The first fish was in the low 30's. Later in the day I saw another fish swim across the river in front of the raft and threw an unweighted suick that it almost immediately blew up on. That fish was quickly netted and was mid 30's. Right at dusk I was arriving at the campsite which has an incredible pool right at it. As soon as I started fishing the pool I had 2 great follows by a mid 40's fish but it wouldn't comity. Just down the pool I was trowing a buck tail when a fish came out of nowhere in the figure 8 and crushed the buck tail. The fish was right around 42. After releasing the fish, I had 2 more of,lows right at dark but couldn't make it happen. The next day I got fishing and threw the fly rod a good bit. I had several good follows including on big girl in the upper 40's but could get any to go. I had a few hits on phantoms that came unbuttoned but didn't put any fish in the boat on day 2. All in all 2 great days of quiet and solitude on a beautiful river causing muskie! Cheers! Matt Attachments ---------------- bf8186e1-f9e8-4129-8064-d07e3ee17473.JPG (139KB - 186 downloads)

I seriously still enjoy fishing smaller rivers from shore with light muskie tackle. Id love to do a float trip like the one you did someday.

| Sounds fun. How far would you say you drifted/floated over 2 days? | |||

Posts: 38 | I floated about 6 miles each day. I wasn't trying to cover a lot of water, as I wanted to be able to spend time on the best parts of the river. The current moves along and for most of the "good" section I put a drag chain out that slows the raft and allows me to really fish the water well. I was in Tennessee on this particular trip.

Posts: 38 | Here's a pic of the raft. It's an Aire Super puma. 13' long. Made for whitewater with a fishing frame on it. Most of the rivers around here that I fish for smallies on are very rocky and have some rapids on them. I also take the frame off and run white water in it as well.
