Agreed. They're pretty rough after 1 or 2 seasons of hard use, but probably the best $100 reel out there.

After 1 or 2 seasons they need repair.

I used them for years and loved them. I moved everything to Revo Toro winches a few years ago.

I did however have one blow out and seize up when I had a vicious strike.

My dad has had one for years and it has been moved to a backup, not the smoothest thing on earth but it has held up very well. In fact I had to break it out at a tourney a couple of weeks ago because of problems with another reel, worked like a charm. From my personal experience they are a lot tougher then an abu round reel, at least the ones that I have had.

i've used the older black models of the same reel in the 5.2 ratio and have had many, many years of great use. normal service every year. handle all baits very well except D10's, even D8's aren't terrible. wore out and have had to replace a few handles. bass pro has all the parts if needed. great drags. work well for all sizes and styles of jerk baits. IMO they beat the crap out of my 6500 C3's for casting. they have a clicker but its not loud enough for trolling. i've got more than my monies worth out of mine and i'm still using them. more than worth the $ if your on a budget and need a reel(s) for casting.

Anybody tried their rods? Was at bass pro a couple of days ago and it appeared that they had some new split grip models in an assortment of lengths and rating. Priced around 149.99 they didn't seem like a bad options although at that price I'd rather have a T.I. Or okuma. I looked at their reels and would take them over a C3.

I have the 8'6" MH bass pro shop rod and it is my go to rod for anything under 4 oz that doesn't pull hard (tens, really big crankbaits etc.) It's a two piece rod rated for 1-4 oz and really works great for flinging small bucktails, lighter cranks, spinner baits and small jerkbaits.

For similar money, I'd go with the Shimano Cardiff. They run about $120.

Exactly, which one r u looking at? Pike master turned me on to the ocean master 4000 3 years ago for a reel to slack line twitch big minnow baits as I was burning through reels doing this. That was three seasons ago and guess what?.....still poppin those 10" jakes on that reel...it's my "abuse reel" And has held up great. I'd like to get another but don't see them for sale any more. Unfortunately though I don't think u can get parts?

My understanding is that the Bass Pro reel is made by Pflueger, a re-labeled Trion 66. I have a Trion that I use as a back-up and for use by guests who aren't accustomed to using a baitcaster since it's so easy to use. You almost have to try to get a bird's nest.

Bass Pro still has the Ocean Master reels for $99.99 also comes with a Power Handle free. Go to page 26 in the salt water catalog, Great reel for the $$$$
Also Bass Pro has a Great Parts Dept, they stock all the parts for this reel.
