I'm curious to know what some of you guys are using as a mesh masking material to achieve a scale pattern. I've got a couple different things I use, one being an old fruit bag that had oranges in it and the other being some football practice jersey material. One creates too fine of a pattern for some applications, and the other basically gives me dots. I'm looking for something that gives me a heavier line, roughly 1/16" and a "scale" about 1/8". Anybody have any tips or suggestions as to what works for you?

Paul Fec, I was looking at some of your lures, particularly your new patterns and I think the mesh you use is the size I'm looking for. Awesome lures, btw!

If you go to Pat Catans, Micheal's or JoAnne Fabrics; you can find all kinds of mesh there for fish scaling...I got all of mine by the yard there years ago and still have not used it all up....I don't really think I ever will! Look around in the store too, theres all kinds of ideas in there! Good Luck and thanks for the comments!

I was on that end of town and decided to stop in to Joanne's and have a look. You're not kidding, they have all kinds of mesh. I ended up picking up a few patterns that I think will work nicely. Needless to say, I didn't fit the profile of a fabric store shopper, and the ladies were curious as to why I needed all these different mesh patterns. I guess they don't see lure builders all that often. Thanks for the advice!

LOL! I remember the same experience and explaining to the lady cutting fabric what it was for....She was fascinated by it...

Glad I could help.

I got a whole bunch from a place called Collins Cottage (I think) She sent me a sample pak and I put her info up here. When I called to place an order she wasn't very happy, seems that over 50 sample paks only netted 3 orders so she stopped giving out samples. But she has the best variety and the best quality mesh that I've ever used. I'm not positive about the name, but I think that's what it is because her name is Karen Collins, so that might make sense, but I've been wrong before.
