We are heading to a destination where a certain color pounder is always usually the bite, but is pretty much in instinction and unavailable, any ones views on using Sharpies coloring there baits, would this detour fish to follow and open there yappers on it. I am one who believes in getting every advantage thats possible, but would this be in the negative column in some minds out there. Thanks

I've marked some up with a sharpie. specifically adding black or blue color. works great but will bleed on to other rubber baits if they are touching while in storage

I put black spots on a white dog with a sharpie to make it look like a crappie. Had good luck with it. Worked ok for a while but the dog turned purple after a couple months.

Fish dont care... the problem is that the color from the sharpie will fade quickly. The trick is to sharpie them and then let them dry in the sunlight for a day or two and repeat as many times as you have the patience for... the color will suck into the bait and not fade near as easily. Good luck.

You can shade soft plastics with Alumidust from Alumilite. See the video below from Larry Dahlberg's site.

They have lots of color options and a little goes a long way. If you set it with a heat gun or hair dryer, as shown, it lasts well and won't bleed.

"Spike it" dye markers are designed to be used on plastic lures. They have been used in the bass market for years. I have used them recently on bull dawgs and medussas with good results. The color will fade a little, but reapplying will fix that. They usually have a garlic scent to them, which I have seen no ill effects from.

Some use "whiteboard" markers, claiming they don't run... I haven't tried this tho.
