Posts: 4269 Location: Ashland WI | I guess technically I am not completely new around here. I joined a couple of weeks ago. Just thought I would tell a little about myself, and post a couple of pics. I am 33 years old. I musky fished a lot in my early twenties. For whatever reason, I had not fished much from the age of 25 to 32. This summer I decided I would try fishing again. The kids seemed to like it, and it was nice seeing them enjoy there time out on the water. During a mid-summer camping trip, I tried for muskies a couple of times. I caught a little one (25'' or so) with my 12 year old son in the boat. We also had another hit. I did not realize it at the time, but he was hooked. A few weeks went by, and I was out walleye fishing with a friend. He had to leave at 6 pm, so I brought him back to the launch. I had my wife drop off my son. I told him we still had crawlers and minnows in the boat so we could walleye fish if he wanted. Nope he says "Muskies!!". We started casting, and not to far along I hooked one that was decent. It was big enough to pull some drag at least. I had it on for a little bit. It surfaced and a few head shakes later, it was off. I was pretty down because it seemed like a decent fish (for me anyway). Only a few casts later, I boated a small one (less than 25''). Not much consolation considering the lost larger fish. I explained to my son, that it was possible that was it for the night. A few hundred yards down the shoreline, we came to a point. We had just crossed over a larger shallow weed flat. It dropped off right at the point. Probably the first or second cast around the point a fish hit. It did not take long to realize this one was BIG. Head shaking, pulling drag, it took a little bit before we even saw it. When we realized how nice it was, we both starting shaking. It took awhile to land it because I had not planned on muskie fishing and did not have the net. I did not think we would need it because I have landed muskies up to 35'' with my hand before. This one was to big to grab. It took awhile but I was finally able to grab the gill plate. It measured out at 42''. Beat my previous personal best by 4''. Anyway a few weeks went by, and I boated another 34''er with my son in the boat. He still had not had a hit or follow at this point. I decided to pick a pretty decent numbers lake to see if we could get his first one. The fish were on that day. We boated 6 fish in 4 hours. They were all between 25'' and 30'' though. My son did get his first and second fish. 29'' and 26''. Both came on topwater. He was pretty excited. I will try to attach pics of the two fish. First time, so I may not be successful.
