Hello I was wondering if anyone had any success in building a sucker pond to keep and breed suckers and I have the land capabilities and the equipment to do so I was wondering how deep would it have to be and what would the bottom consistency have to be gravel or sand or clay?

My 1st step would be to check with the DNR to get all the legal issues figured out. Then the local DNR fish biologist. Wouldn't want to run into any VHS problems etc.

Our MI chapter looked into construction of ponds for fish production. LOTS of potential legal issues. You will need more insurance and it has to have no potential for flooding in a very heavy rain. Your in hot water if it floods someone's property or the runoff goes into a creek or waterway,,you might also try posting this question on a farming website. Farmers make a lot of ponds
