Ive decided this year I am not going to trust crimps alone. Ive never had one fail, nor do I want to. So I have switched to tied leaders. The only problem is, the tied leaders often have such short tag ends, they look more likely to fail than a crimp. Are there any manufacturers out there that crimp the tag end of a tied leader? Anyone ever have a knot come untied on a tied leader (bucher or bait rigs)?

I think you are worrying about something not very likely to happen. If the leader fails with a properly assembled crimp, it is probably plain worn out. Otherwise, the line or other terminal tackle will fail before the leader will, by my experience. I have been using the crimps for many years, and have never had one fail.

Thanks for the response sworral! I probably am being overly careful, but I dont really see anything wrong with that. Im going to snap rings only this year also, because im not liking the idea of a snap straightening out or coming undone. Ive had every kind of snap come open at one point or another. But, you are probably right, I am probably worrying about something that may or may not ever be an issue. But after watching my friend cast off a lure with leader still attached to the lure, and reel in a ball bearing tied to his line, I think ill keep being paranoid. Especially if there is a tied and crimped leader out there, id rather pay the extra dollar or two for the added insurance than send a musky away with a lure stuck in his throat. =)

I guess I may have to start making my own 7 strand leaders too. I cant seem to find any manufacturers offer a tie+crimped leader.
