First off I've learned quite a bit reading here on the forums. This has been my 1st season fishing for musky "mainly by myself" I've done pretty well so far I've caught a 42.5 inch, 40 and a 38 and a hand full of smaller ones all in West virginia. Anyways enough bragging lol now with the weather about to get colder I could use advice on a good set of water proof gloves. I wouldn't think my big hunting gloves would work out well. So what do y'all use?

i just use the wool fingerless gloves. i carry two pair. they usually get wet from the line drips and spray. i also put hanwarmers in my coat pockets for a little warmth recharge if needed. good luck and hang a big one!

I was going to post this same question one of these days. Last year I found a pair of waterproof work gloves that worked pretty good, but I can't tell what brand they are anymore. Gemplers 21939 looks very similar. They soaked through after a few hours, if I had 2 spare pairs with me they would have been great. A bit cumbersome but not enough to bother me.

Wells Lamont 7660 looks promising as well. I'll probably order a few and try them out, then stock up.

good reviews on these. cut the thumb and index finger to the first knuckle

I use a similar pair. I like it because the neoprene when wet can still keep your paws warm. its basically wetsuit material.

I layer. First layer are your basic latex surgical gloves and then those cotton gloves with the rubber palms and fingertips over the top. The key is keeping your skin dry and that layering method does this. I carry 2-3 extra pairs of the cotton gloves along and switch out once they get soaked pretty good. You could also use neoprenes over the top of the latex gloves.

I use the same thing when ice fishing except when walking out to a spot and digging holes. Then I'll have a heavier pair on. This system works for me but might not for everyone. My hands don't get cold as quickly as some people's hands do so experiment and find something that works for your hands/body. The latex gloves are cheap and the cotton/rubber coated gloves are cheap as well. West Virginia doesn't get as cold as Wisconsin so I'm not sure you'll need to pay a ridiculous amount of money for gloves that make your hands sweat when it's 35 below.

Maybe this string will be shifted to Tackle and equipment but the best gloves I have used in 30 years of fishing are Kast Steelhead gloves. They are pricey but being comfortable and dry is important to me so I can focus on fishing and not on my cold wet hands.

+1 on the Kast Steelhead gloves. It takes some special equipment to be able to stay out in brutal conditions and these gloves fit the bill. These gloves offer warmth and dexterity, worth the $80 imo.

I use the Glacier Glove Ice Bay gloves. I’ve tried ones that have slits so the thumb and index finger can be exposed, but I found that they just provide another place for water to get in.

Here is a thread I created on this same topic last year: http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=89...

Sam I asked a similar question earlier this year. Here is the link to the thread. The search feature on this forum is great for finding info.

Those look promising, I'll be ordering a pair.
