Posts: 104 | I will be bringing my 10 year old son to the Minocqua area to hopefully catch his first musky. What lakes do you suggest for a kid seeing the most fish and having his best chances?

Posts: 1660 Location: central Wisconsin | Do a little research, go to the DNR website and look for lakes that are classified A2.

Posts: 422 | I agree with achotrod, hiring a guide would be the best if you can afford it. You could do a full or half day to shorten the curve. If hiring a guide you can't go wrong with Jake Smith at Smitybait. Craig R.

Posts: 66 | If you can, go north 15-20 minutes and get on any lake on the Manitowish Chain. All are great numbers lakes and you don't need a guide to be successful as most of them are fairly small and you should be able to find plenty of musky areas to fish without a guide.

Posts: 397 Location: Wisconsin | Wildcat is a good spot to start. I also think Gilmore and Sweeny are good places to try, both are small enough and easy to find musky in

Posts: 300 Location: Minocqua, WI | Awful weed and milfoil explosion in Booth this year, but lots of little fish 30 and under are available. Shallow mud landing not the best, so bring waders if you plan getting in. Wildcat is most loaded and can be fun, but expect to see lots of boats even on the slow days.
