I have a 2005 Ranger Reatta with a 150 4-stroke Yamaha. Historically, I have used a 19 pitch 3 blade stainless prop (Mercury Tempest Plus). At 5500 RPM's I have a top speed in the low to mid 40's. Trolling speed is manageable down to around 3 mph (more or less based on tilt/trim and wind/waves). If I changed the prop pitch, how would it impact my top end and or low end speed. Also, for pulling a tube or skier, do I want a higher or lower prop pitch to jump out of the hole? Fishing and trolling is my main concern but I am curious on the skiing impacts too. Thanks

Dropping to a 17 you should see approx 400 rpm gain, which is where you should be. Motor maxes out at 6000, try to get it closer to that. Dropping to a 17 will also help your holeshot for watersports and lower your trolling speed. You could also send your prop to a good prop repair shop and they could tweak your current prop for better performance.

Thanks for the info. I just had my prop fixed last spring and it seems like I lost a few MPH on the top end.
