Posts: 32959 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | 32 Anglers hit the water today under nearly perfect early Spring conditions. The daytime temps were in the 70's, and the fish willing. Rattletraps caught many of the muskies, including Murph's 45" beauty. The Sledge, Manta, Jake, and other baits accounted for the rest. Crash's Landing's Guides and Tony Grant gave the group an overview of what to expect for Friday and Saturday, and set the stage for the evening entertainment during the Outing. Crash's Landing and Morehead Tourism are sponsoring a banquet for us Saturday night, and Tony Grant has his famous 'roadkill chilli' feed for us tomorrow evening. Anyone who passed on this outing has missed a great time! Here is the count so far: Murph! 45" Shaun_4 39" David_4 30" Mike Hulbert 36.5", 33" Mark P, 31.75", 34.25" Ralph Florio 32" Mike Koepp 31" Jason Smith 31", 30" Tony Grant 30.5" Mike Hulbert is leading with 69.5 points. Murph! has the big fish as of today! My thanks to Justin Mullins for taking me out on the Cave this afternoon for a few casts. His knowledge of the Cave and it's muskies is very extensive, his rig comfortable, and the conversation great. Thanks, sir. We each missed/lost a rattletrap fish, and I raised one little feller about 25" or so. What a great evening! Justin put Murph! and TECK on the area Murph took his big girl from, too. Tony gave us a comprehensive report from his Guide service, recommending SHALLOW, SHALLOW, or SHALLOW. Posts: 568 | Just got home and unloaded. fished til 2;30 pm today, For some odd reason the shallow bite did'nt seem to there today(at least for the folks I talked to) Raze was still getting shut out when I left. Only heard of a couple small fish today. The shad were not stacked in the back of the coves like they were yesterday. Had a great time last night at the hotel. Today should have been great , even warmer than yesterday but windy. Will see if strong late pm bite shows. ManitouDan

Posts: 32959 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The weather was absolutley perfect in Kentucky today with temps in the 70's. Fishing was spotty, but the overall catch was good. Mike Koepp -40", 32", 30.5" Big O- 32" BruceKy 39" Steve Hulbert - 30", 33" Norm Wild- 30", 31" Mike Hulbert- 39.5", 35", 31" Tony Grant- 31" FSF- 35", 33" (sorry I missed you two, Crash wanted to fish until the sun was totally gone. We were leaving at about 6:30, but Crash hooked and lost a good one, you certainly undersatnd..) Doug J- 31" The shallow bite was again the rule with water temps averaging about 53 degrees in the warmer bays. Rattletraps, gliders, and jerk baits performed well. Everyone is sunburned some, including Tony and Justin. Tony hosted a group of hungry anglers with his famous Road Kill chilli, and I hosted a group at the Comfort Inn with Pizzas and drinks. Fishing stories were plentiful. There were several huge bass caught today using the rattletraps, including Crash's and Norm Wild's fish pictured here. I will do my best to get muskie pictures together from the group tomorrow. Anyone who passed on this trip is missing a great time. We have the banquet totally sponsored by Morehead Tourism and Crash's Landing tomorrow. Thanks again to Tony Grant, Crash and Justin Mullins, the Comfort Inn on 801 ( what a great place to stay if a hotel is in your fishing plans here) and all the guides and other friends we have down here for the superb hospitality.

Posts: 2061 Location: Belgium | nice pics steve! I was just wondering: do you know why all the color of these fish is so pale? DOes that have to do with the water conditions?

Posts: 32959 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The water here is a bit cloudy now, so the fish have adapted with the color you see, kind of pale and white. That changes when things clear up here after high water. Sponger has lost two, so is VERY close!!

Posts: 938 Location: NeverNever Lake | WOW !!!, Got home in record time, 5 bells. I must have been really gougen on the mini truckster. I felt kinda sick so I went to Urgent Care. The Doctor told me I had a bad case of Trappalongitis. I said "Doc what does that mean"? He said it was a "vibration sickness" and asked me how many casts I made with a Rattle Trapp. I don't want to look at another one for a long time. Saturday afternoon, the last hour of the last day I finally hooked up. For 3 days I threw a 1oz chrome Trapp with not a single hit. I dug around in my box and saw a 1.5 firetiger Trapp that someone found in a brush pile at a lake near home. It still had the original hooks so I pulled a pair off a baby Depthraider I had in the box. Within the next hour I boated a fish. I had a great time. I don't think I have met such a super group of people in one place in many years. It was fellowship at its finest. Thanks to Steve, Sponge, Mikey, Mauser, Art, Crash and his gang, and all others involved, I can hardly wait till next year. .....................................................RAZE Edited by RAZE1 3/30/2003 2:23 PM

Location: Athens, Ohio | Well, if we went for bass fishin, me and Mauser would be on top. Four nice ones, at least 8-10 pounds between us. Anyway, as for the muskies. Had one swirl on my bait when I was with Sponge and Raze. Two fine fishermen, those, we had a wonderful day on the water. Fishing with Mauser, I had a 36 come straight up outta 4 feet of water with my Trap in its mouth, never even got the hook set. Thought I'd have a double on that between the fish and Mauser, but luck held for us there. We strained that water 3 more times to no avail, then Koepp came in and nailed a 40 within 5 feet of the spot. Yesterday, I had the honor of fishing with the outing's top gun, and Mike was awesome. He used my new bobbie to nail one, who promptly stuck the lure in a stump and left town. Then, I cast to a road bed. Soon as my trap came off the roadbed, it musta gone right over that fish's head! Swirled, maybe hit, but then made a mad dash for Mike's bobbie and we got her in the boat for a solid 37. I'm trying to claim that as a team effort. My sincere thanks to: Sponge, Raze, Mauser, Mike for fishing with me and surviving my driving. Tony Grant for his fine hospitality, great food, uplifting wit, and patient instruction. Tony's directions really got the South on fish, now I tell ya. Crash and the Morehead Tourism people for taking such good care of us and providing us some of the best weather of the year so far. Jason and Steve for getting and keeping it all together. Al Gore for inventing the internet that made this all possible. And, for the opportunity to hang with some of the finest people and muskie sticks in the land, thanks, to everyone who came out. Time of my life. Photos later once I get the film back. m

Posts: 477 Location: Iowa | Sounds like a great time was had by all. Wish I would have been there, but I'm already working on the wife for next year. She thinks I'm crazy for wanting to plan something so far away, but I figure this way that sooner or later she'll get tired of hearing about it and just tell me to go. Glad to hear the weather was good and congrats on some nice catches!! Sponge, there's always next year!
