Caught my first Lake Geneva musky last night at sunset while bass fishing with a small crankbait. She was a beautiful young fish about 26". Mad I did not take a quick photo, but wanted to get her in the water quick and forgot. She was clear with spots and wondered what strain of fish was stocked?? Wonder what the future holds for my home lake??

P.S. It was nice meeting you at the launch the other day. How's the new motor?

There aren't giants yet but there should be some in the 3 foot category in there. Could be interesting in a few years but they seem to be taking better than delevan, imho the big pike and bass are eating most of the stocked fish there.

I've seen photos of low 40's....whether they were there before the initial stocking I have no idea, but they looked legit to me and not an exaggeration on size.

The future is looking really bright for Lake Geneva. The muskies that have been stocked are the upper Wisconsin River strain. There will be more stocking this fall also. Wisconsin fisheries biologist will be doing studies on the muskies next year. A huge part of my guiding is done on this lake already so I am really happy about what is to come.

Doug, do you know when they are stocking? I know last time they were looking for help but I was unable to make it that day. Would like to be of service if I am free this year.
Thanks

The WDNR will be stocking 2,500 muskie fingerlings into Lake Geneva on Friday September 5th at the Abbey Springs Boat Launch. The WDNR needs your help in fin clipping these muskies! If you can assist, please arrive at Abbey Springs Boat Launch at 11:00AM. The hatchery will deliver the fish around noon. The fish will be stocked from the fish truck into a net pen in the lake and netted out for finclipping before being released. Several DNR staff will be on site to work alongside you. Volunteer duties will include:

Netting fish out of the net pen
Transporting fish by bucket to the clipping troughs
Netting fish out of the clipping troughs
Finclipping fish (as easy as using a pair of scissors)
Stocking clipped fish into the lake by bucket

All you need to bring is yourself, a pair of waders (optional) and whatever personal items you would like (camera, water, etc.). If you are interested in helping out, please contact the Lake Geneva Fishing Club. Thank you very much for helping make Lake Geneva fishing even better! If you can and would like to help please contact us at [email protected]
