Looking to upgrade the 95 60hp merc on my boat to a 99 115 Merc. Both motors are in great shape and Im trying to figure out what I could get for mine and what I should pay for the 115.

Thanks checked it out. The guy is asking 4k for the 115 and NADA says its only worth about 2 grand. Think Ill pass on it.

Not sure I agree with the NADA guide. Boat stuff seems way under valued on NADA or anything similar. Check around on Craigslist to get an idea of the going rate on things. It's hard to find a 1990 40 hp tiller for much under 2K it seems.

I bought my boat about 6 or 7 years ago (sheesh), and got a pretty good deal on it. I spent way more than NADA said it was worth.

Yeah, NADA really struggles with boat values. We ran into it when buying.

Hiya,

If you go to a dealer, they use a different book for values. I don't recall what the name is, but it is more accurate than Nada by and far.

I would agree but he offered me less then NADA for my 60. So he is basically doubling his price over NADA on his then offering me less then NADA on mine.

The finance organizations use NADA.

This is very true. We looked at a boat that was priced at $9k. NADA valued it at $3k.

NADA doesn't even remotely come close to estimating costs of electronics, covers, chargers etc. The boat I looked at came with two HDS 7 with Structure Scan. NADA valued those at something ridiculous like $125.

You'll get a much better idea what stuff is actually SELLING for on Craigslist, the classifieds on here or on other fishing websites. Your gear is always worth what someone is willing to pay for it. The guides like NADA might put you in the ballpark, but they can also be drastically off as well.

Yeah I thought it was crazy he offered 1k for mine but wants 4k for his when they are only valued 800 apart on NADA. Weird thing is Im sure this motor was listed at 2100 last month but he wouldnt budge from 4k when I spoke with him.

Yup, that's true and it's too bad. It makes it harder to finance a boat deal than it should be.

I don't remember the figures, but the finance company was at least a couple grand short of what my boat was worth. I put a good chunk of money down on it, and still made a couple white lies about boat accessories it had to get the value high enough for them to finance. Didn't seem right, but I had a very good handle on the going rate for that boat at that time.
