Posts: 118 | Just booked a trip to Youngs Wilderness Camp for late August and was wondering if anyone has any reviews, advice, pointers, etc. I used to fish out of Helliars Resort right in Nestor Falls but that was in the middle of July about 15 years ago. We used to fish anything that was rocky/weedy and #*^@ near every point, island, and weedbed got covered pretty hard. Should we plan on hitting the same types of areas? Any must have lures for that area and season? Thanks

Posts: 118 | I guess I'll have to report back this fall considering it doesn't appear that anyone has ever been there....

It's entirely possible that people who have been there and can tell you something simply haven't seen your post yet. Someone will answer but the basic answer is yes, you'll need to check all those type of spots to determine where the fish are. Unless you get somebody who will be there the day before you are, they may be able to give you some actual recon or intel that may hold. Good luck!

Posts: 2754 Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Relax, you're not leaving until late August, someone else may post or not! My advice is to start with the owners, they have a vested interest in seeing you have a good trip, and are usually dialed in to what's happening day to day, they'll usually mark your map and give you a good start when you check in. Another resource for immediate info is the Anglers Pro Shop right in Nestor Falls, I always stop & chat with Phil when going through. + good place to get your fishing license, and sportsman card and a few lures..... Have fun! Al Edited by ESOX Maniac 6/29/2014 7:26 AM

Posts: 47 | I took a trip to Youngs two summers ago during the first week of July. The week was unseasonably hot and in five days three anglers caught a total of 9 muskies all around 32 inches, with several dozen follows. It seemed that the bigger fish were more sluggish, possibly due to the hot weather or the still early season. As recommended by the lodge owner, all fish were on small bucktails in brown/gold, black/silver, or blue/silver. Spots included anything from weedy bays to windblown rocky points. We did not venture out into Sabaskong bay and regret that decision, thinking the size would increase out there on the bigger water. I would expect august to yield much better results. Try a mixture of rock and weed spots. Different structure types turn on during different times of the day. For baits try primarily bucktails from supermodels to small single 8 bladed tails, fast and erratically. The owners would tell you to stock up on black/gold, brown/gold, but bring a variety of baits with primarily dark colors with contrast. If the tails stop working then experiment with rubber, cranks, topwater, etc. My best advice is to do the best 8's you possibly can because the better you are by the boat, the more fish you will catch up there. Good luck!

Posts: 925 | Last year after our annual trip to Kenora, we stopped at Young's Bay Camp for one night on the way home on Saturday. We put 5 fish over 40 in the boat on Saturday alone. It was crazy, I don't know if it was the weather or what. But I've been fishing LOTW for 13 years everywhere from the NW Angle up to Kenora and this was our best single day on the water as far as good sized fish over 40 in the boat. It was very windy, so we were able to get out of the algae bloom. Some parts of Young's Bay looked like antifreeze. I'm not kidding. It was this yellowish/green water that I had never seen before anywhere on LOTW. Apparently the fish don't care though! It's LOTW, don't over think it. If it looks good fish it. There are fish everywhere.

Posts: 925 | Like I said above. If it looks good fish it. On our banner day last year my buddy was throwing a Jr Double silver cow girl and I was throwing a walleye Super Model. Never switched baits all day. Didn't need to.
