Posts: 1516 | We drink Bud Light and used to buy it at the duty free in IF but it always tasted a little off. After further inspection it was brewed by Labbatts on license from BUD so we were drinking Canadian beer after all. Now we bring it from home. We always figure duty about 10.00 per case of beer

Posts: 58 | Crossing border earlier this year 4 of us declared 16 cases (24s) of beer 5 liters booze and some small amount of tobacco. the agent asked us if we were going on a fishing trip or a drinking trip and told us have a good time fellas! our beer tasted much better at $19/case for the next 7 days. Maybe you boys gotta pick smaller border crossings! ha

I haven't drank, for over 30 yrs, a full two yrs before I started muskie fishing. Why deal with headaches (at the border and in your head the morning after) when you are enjoying the great area like Canada?

Posts: 100 | Honesty is the best policy for sure. Last time we went over the Boarder we had about 8 cases of beer all lined up nice in the bed of the pick up so the Boarder Agent could see them. We told him what we had and what we needed to pay extra duty on. He just waived us through without paying anything. You need that much beer when staying on an island on Eagle Lake!

There are zero headaches at the border and if ur not a drunk no headaches in the morning.Nothing better than enjoying a fine alcoholic beverage in the north woods after catching a big muskie with ur favorite fishing buddy.

Posts: 7 | The reason alcohol and tobacco are so much more expensive in Canada is to pay for their socialized health care. Its called sin taxes, and that is exactly why socialized health care (ie Obamacare) will never work in the US because no one is going to vote for someone who wants to add $20.00 to the cost of a Busch Light 30 pack. Free health care isn't free folks.

Posts: 51 | Real quick side note, don't buy chew across the boarder either. 10 bucks for a tin that is half the size. It's like a sampler tin you can get for free at an expo or festival at a skoal, or grizz tent

Posts: 7 | They actually did away with those 15g tins, they are "full size" now, and cost over $20 bucks! If you use alcohol and/or tobacco in Canada, you are paying more for health care than if you just bought a policy on your own.

Posts: 246 | I just got back from Winnapeg river. You basically save about 40% buy bringing extra booze from U.S and paying duty. Case of Miller lite 15.00 U.S plus 8.00 duty is 23.00. Buy case in Canada is 47.00.Booze is about the same ratio. READ THIS !!! My buddy drove across border. We had 3 guys ,3 cases of beer and 3 half gallons of booze. So we had 6 liters of extra booze. Don't say you have extra booze, tell them you have 3 cases beer and 6 liters of alcohol. We were the only one at the border but the agent did'nt want to waste the time.Let them figure it out and tell you to go inside.I used to say I had Extra and that was the flag and they sent me inside. My buddy does not say extra just how many liters of alcohol and has not had been sent inside to pay duty.Great leaning lesson for me with 40 trips to Canada. Good Luck Gmanny

Posts: 10 | First off while I live in Ohio I travel to Ontario weekly for multi days on business and spend a lot of money in Canada. I have grown to love Ontario and my Canadian friends. Having said that your response is unfair and harsh. Most of these guys are already spending thousands of dollars on guides, lodging, food , bait etc. How can you fault them for saving a few bucks on beer that is overpriced to support programs that are of no benefit to them?? Every person I know in Ontario who is anywhere near a border takes advantage of cheaper US alcohol, tobacco and even grocery prices.

Posts: 75 | I always pay the duty on beer. So far it has always came out to $9-$10 a case for a $15 case of beer. Well worth it and saves you time.
