Posts: 404 Location: Lakeville, MN | Ive been looking for a late 90's ranger 690/692vs for some time and am having a difficult time getting the moon and stars to align and buy one.. but over the course of searching (and bothering a lot of people) i came across a couple champion fish hunter 180s and a 190, im curious what people who own them or have fished out of them think pros and cons and how do they compare to other boats of similar size and era? tuffy, ranger, skeeter, etc. thanks so much

Posts: 437 | I dont own one personally, but one of my buddies has one (186 walkthru windshield). Its a nice boat. I have fished in it quite a few times and it does fish nice. Handles rough water well IMO. It doesnt appear to be a very "fast" boat, but that may not matter to you. When I say that, he has a 200HP Yammy compared to my 150HP suzuki (on an Alumacraft tournament sport 18'11") and he only gets 2MPH more than me on top end. I crush him out of the hole, but he gets me on the big end. Not a huge deal I know. It wouldnt sway me from buying one!! There is lots of nice storage, cooler, livewell of decent size. Not sure if they all have it or not, but his has the snap out carpet which is very nice for cleaning. I believe they were bought out by Triton??? I think the model is still sold today, could be wrong though. It is a nicely designed boat from what I can tell. Probably get more for your money than getting a Ranger.

Posts: 23 | I've owned a 190 since 1997. Great boat. Lots of storage, big decks, seaworthy, fast, tracks well and lower to water than the Ranger (a good thing in my book when casting). I would not hesitate to buy one. I also owned 1991 a 176 (similar to the 180). Not nearly as nice of a layout in my opinion and a bit tail heavy causing a rougher ride.
