Location: The desert | Been getting intermittent alarms, both beeps and continuous time. No pattern to them, though they usually kick in around 2000 RPM.
Had it in for service and they couldn't get the alarm to turn on. Nothing on the computer recorded either. Oil reservoir is nearly full. Replaced a fuel pump wire that was getting hot. Ran two days perfectly, now alarms back on.
Any ideas beyond trade it in for a Yamaha? If I could afford it, that would have already happened. In the two days this motor has run good, I like it. But those god awful beeps make me want to pull the plug over 100 feet of water. |

Location: Downers Grove | I've got a 150 opti.. There's a float in the oil reservoir in the side of the engine that is broke I'm assuming. Same beeps I had. Mechanic disconnected the alarm for me and told me I will have no issue as long as my oil tank has oil. Hope this helps |

Location: Hayward, WI | Is your RPM being limited when the alarms go off? Couple things I have seen with similar horns: bad shift switch, bad ignition switch, bad main harness, loose battery connections. |

No, they haven't, at least that I noticed. Obviously with alarms going off I didn't want to run wide open in the event it is something bad. But I power loaded it with no issues yesterday.
Alarm came on at wide open and didn't limit my Rpms. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Make sure your engine oil reservoir on top of the 90 is bled and is filing properly, and the cap is tight. Make sure your main oil reservoir cap is tight. Make sure your battery terminals are tight. |

| My 60 was doing the same thing because it was over heating. Make sure the impeller is in good shape. I was still seeing water out of the pee hole but it wasnt enough at slow speeds. 35 in parts 30 minutes of install and been on the water for 30hrs or more now and its been great. Other thing would be the oil sensor as mentioned |

| Similar problem with my 75HP Opti. 4 intermittent beeps every 2 minutes, but I had also been getting a constant beep every now and again before that, usually occurring under full power. Motor otherwise ran like a top. As mentioned above, the problem was defective float/sensor in the oil reservoir. Apparently, it isn't repairable outside of replacing the entire oil tank. |

Motor otherwise ran like a top. As mentioned above, the problem was defective float/sensor in the oil reservoir. Apparently, it isn't repairable outside of replacing the entire oil tank.
Did you have the sensor disabled then? |

No, I'm having them replace the oil tank. (Motor is currently in the shop). |

| The tank on a 200/225 Opti is about $65. Not sure what it would cost on the 90 Opti, if that is the issue.

Last time in the dealer they couldn't get an alarm to go on, nor were there any codes stored. I don't really enjoy taking it in the shop, no alarms, back out, alarm. I also don't want to guess and just start replacing stuff. Frustrating, to say the least.
Maybe if I swap to a Yamaha cowling it will run better? |

| Impellers are super easy to change and cheap. They are a reg maintenance item and required to be changed. It will not only be good to do it, but may be the problem and will cause the alarms to go off. The dealer prob didnt find it because the motor never got warm enough to cause the alarm to go off. |

Will definitely change it....but after 20 minutes running wide open I'd think the engine would be getting up to overheating temps, but maybe not. |

| Sometimes, WOT is not the problem with the overheat alarm. When the impellers wear, they pump enough at higher RPM's, but not enough at idle. My 135 Opti would do that after idling, I'd punch it, and the alarm would sound. Turn it off, and restart, and it would be fine after that.
When I looked at the Water PSI on the Smartcraft at idle, would be 1 or less, but at mid-throttle and higher, would be 10-12. New impeller was2-2.5 at idle, and 12-15 at higher speeds.

| Mine was ok at WOT since the impeller would spin fast enough to cool the motor. Idle to approx 2k is when it would get hot enough to sound the alarm. If it was the oil sensor it would be a constant alarm all the time. |
