Just wondering what summer months do you think is the best for fishing on LOTW, and what area you prefer..

Have only fished once in Sab. Bay and liked it, but was looking up in the Kenora area, and that looks nice as well..

Also factoring in amount of people as well, enjoy not seeing other boats if possible!!

thanks

Dave

Kenora area is probably not the best choice if you are looking for solitude. Maybe not a ton of muskie fisherman per se, but there certainly are some, and there are lots of cabins and recreational boaters around.

Summer success can be really weather-dependent. Any given week from opener to end of Aug can be better or worse than another. Generally, opener/late-June can be tough depending upon prevailing weather in late winter/early spring and when the fish finished up the spawn. By mid/late Aug there can be an algae bloom of varying degree to contend with, which can certainly be a pain sometimes if its bad. But then, fishing can be really good during those timeframes if you hit it right. Probably the most consistent bite year-after-year would be mid/late July since generally you are hitting summer peak.

You really can't go wrong fishing either out of the NW Angle or Sab Bay. Really good numbers and size in both regions. The key in my mind is to pick an area and a time of year and through repeated trips and years you'll get dialed in on a milkrun.

Thanks Matt, glad i asked because i thought the Kenora region would be less crowded.. Was surprised how crowded Sab bay was actually... Just hard finding a place to stay in that area.. Seems if you're not a regular, there are few openings at the resorts there...

And yes, the weater was odd this year, seems that it wasnt close to being 'normal' up there from what i hear....

Thanks again

There are always openings if you look around. I found a cabin available at Buena Vista Resort in Morson in late July this summer on pretty short notice. Some weeks the resorts are full of musky fishermen and others are full of bass and walleye guys. Sometimes it's a crapshoot as to how many musky guys will be out there. Either way, I have never seen it so crowded that I couldn't find an area to go and get away from the "crowds" (4 musky boats within sight of me).

I probably won't go back to the Angle simply because of the hassle with the daily border crossing.

Don't let the border issue stop you from going to the angle. Just get an RABC and you don't have to call at all. Well worth $30 in my opinion.
