I blew the 2nd down shaft in this motor in less than 2 years (9/12/2012 and again the other day on 6/14/14). Not sure why but thinking the root of the issue is something may be bent or out of balance. Bought the 2006 boat and motor used in 2011. When I purchased it I noted no visible chips or cracks on the prop (stainless prop was actually in pristine condition) but did notice the skeg had a hairline fracture in it which eventually resulted in part of the front of the skeg falling off about a year later and I stuck a Panther skeg protector on it to protect it from any further damage. Aside from that issue, I've never felt or seen anything that would suggest any unusual "wobble" or "vibration" in regard to the power head, mid section or lower unit. However, given the skeg issue, I am wondering if the prop shaft could be bent and if I should assume it is and replace it while replacing the down shaft. Anyone with any thoughts would be appreciated as I want to take care of the cause/root of the problem so I don't have to worry about blowing the shaft for a third time! Thank you for any thoughts.

I would assume the prop shaft is fine if the place replacing it hasn't said it was bent. I know the splines on evinrudes aren't known for their durability
