Posts: 612 Location: Michigan | How many people out there have insurance for his or her fishing equipment? If so, what kind of coverage was purchased? I'm sure there are multiple policies out there, but do most people get coverage for just damage or theft or something else?

Posts: 351 Location: Vilas County, WI | I have coverage up to 5000 on sporting equipment, i.e. my musky gear, already included in my homeowners policy. Therefore I have not pursued any additional coverage. I fish primarily out of my old man's boat and do not own my own. If I was a boat owner I would pursue one of the above described options that were mentioned.

Posts: 1516 | Not all policies are the same however the coverage provided by the HO policy would only cover the perils named in the policy. Boat sinking is not a covered peril under the HO policy

Location: MN | If you have special perils coverage on your personal property on your home owners or renters policies you have all perils coverage minus a set of exclusions. Boat sinking is not an exclusion. You can also schedule your fishing equipment on your home/renters policy which has even broader coverage and you can set a lower deductible. If you don't have a home or renters policy you can get a scheduled policy on its own. I would talk to an independent agent if you do not already have one.
