I received an email yesterday for the wounded warriors and vet's and family.they were looking for a few extra boats for a event they're having on the 20th.has anybody done anything like this.what can I expect.I don't know if the person they send me with will be able to cast or troll all I have no clue.also I have never finish the lake before.if anybody can give me some tips. where I can find weed beds, reefs or shore line i could troll that would be great. It's being held at Lord Fletchers

Thank you Tom

I've done this event the past two years, it is put on by Fishing for Life in conjunction with Muskies Inc. Basicaly you volunteer yourself as a guide for the morning, take some vets out (sometimes a vet and his family) fishing and then come back where they do a weigh in and then get a free lunch from Fletchers. It is a lot of fun and a very rewarding experience.

There will be plenty of folks there who will can and will give you tips on where to take folks to fish. Generally I plan to catch panfish if I have kids or bass/pike if I take adults. I let the folks I'm taking out dictate what we go after.

yes, but most kids bring their own gear. There will be plenty of people there to offer you suggestions.

It is Kids and Vets. Last year I took out two young gentlemen who were headed to basic in a few short weeks. There is usually a good mix of folks, older vets with families, kids, and young recruits. I brought only musky gear my first year doing it and took the head of Fishing for Life out. The more boats the merrier.

I have "guided" in this event that last 2 years and will be out there this year and can say that it is well organized and that it is definitely worth it. I will be there this year again too and like Brad said just find us at the dock and we will point you in the right direction to get the Vets and kids on some fish. It would be cool to catch a muskie during the event, but honestly it is more important to try and put them on some fish (bass/pike/panfish) especially if you have a kid in the boat. I would also say that if you have friends/family who are in the military or have family deployed check out the website and see if there are spots available for them to be guided.

You could launch at Maxwell Bay or North Arm or Gray's Bay. All are good launches and have ample parking.

Muskie Inc and Fishing for Life's Armed Forces Family Fishing Celebration

Friday, June 20

Lord Fletcher's on Lake Minnetonka

-- Guided fishing for military families & Wounded Warriors -- Free picnic lunch

-- Fishing contest for youth with trophies & medals -- Boats & equipment provided

Sponsored by: Twin Cities Muskies Inc and Lord Fletcher's on Lake Mtka

Whether you are a kid who is obsessed with fishing, or has never caught a fish, you won't want to miss this fun event! Fishing for Life, Twin Cities Muskies Inc and Lord Fletcher's are proud to sponsor our sixth annual Armed Forces Family Fishing Celebration.

This event is located on Lake Minnetonka and is exclusively for youth & their families who have had a family member in the Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Marines, National Guard, etc), as well as for Wounded Warriors and veterans recently returned from deployment.

Volunteer fishing guides bring their boats to the lake and bring participants out on the water for a great morning of fishing action. Bait and loaner equipment are provided for those who don't have their own. There is great shore fishing at this location while you wait your turn for a boat.

Schedule: Participants should arrive between 6:30 and 7 am for registration and free donuts. (Youth under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.) We will fish all morning, then enjoy a delicious lunch (no cost for participants), followed by an awards ceremony with trophies and medals for youth participants. The event ends around 1:00 pm.

How to sign up: Free registration is first-come, first-served. If you register and your plans change, please cancel three days prior so that another family has a chance to take your place. Questions, please contact [email protected] or call 763-245-9829. (Please do not call Lord Fletcher's with questions - thank you!)

Weather: This event takes place rain or shine. It will only be cancelled if there is lightning or torrential rain.

What to bring: sunscreen, sun hat, sunglasses (can you tell we're counting on good weather?!), water bottle, sweatshirt or light jacket, camera, fishing license for adults who plan to fish, fishing rod & life jacket if you have them.

That is a great cause. Folks volunteering their time and boats should be congratulated. Thank you!
