Posts: 334 Location: Madison, WI | Obviously this has been an extremely cold and long winter and im sure it will delay things. However, a friend and I are heading up to oneida/vilas mid june(12-15). We normally have only gone up late in the year( late October early November). We wanted to try something different and fish during the spring/summer months. We've fish alot of lakes up there but We usually fish oneida and lake julia as our go to in the fall but ive been told that those are not the best spring lakes. We are looking to narrow our spring learning curve a bit so any help in directing us to some place more productive would be nice. I wouldn't ask but there are so many lakes that hold muskies its hard to choose and with limited time its even harder. Obviously im not looking for gps coordinates but just a slight headsup. Thanks!

Posts: 334 Location: Madison, WI | Thanks for the heads up. My buddy said that we should try dam or sand lake?? He was told they too are stained and warm faster. Any thoughts?

The Arbor Vitaes can be good, I'd say they are moderately clear and the fish stack in the bays early, Big has eurasian milfoil so it's virtually unfishable by mid summer but I like it in late May/June. Even with a late spring I would think there will be established weeds by then. Really there's a lot of options so just pick something and explore. I would avoid Crescent though, a notoriously late starter.

Posts: 334 Location: Madison, WI | Thought I would dust this one off just a bit now that ive got a few more questions. Obviously not looking for hot spots but is there any lakes that typically dont get alot of pleasure boat traffic that hold decent muskies?? We are now taking my boat up north and its much smaller than my buddies boat so dealing with constant pounding of waves from pleasure boats is annoying. I really need to get a bigger boat but that's just not a priority right now. The whole point of going up north is to avoid the typical madison weekend warriors pounding the water with their pleasure boats. Considering that we normally go up in the fall this isnt an issue normally. Any help is appreciated, I could care less about launch quality. I dont mind getting my feet wet. Thanks!
