At the MN expo I purchased an All Star 6'10" heavy. I was impressed with the All Stars that now I want to get the 8' but I noticed that it has a moderate action. The St Croix 8' has a fast action. Is there much difference between the two? I would mainly be using it for bucktails and topwater. Maybe a small crankbait from time to time.

Just a personal opinion ,but I ould go with the fast action rod. Over the course of the day your body will thank you as the the better whip action of the faster rod will require less muscle work per cast.

I would agree, for what you want to throw the St.Croix is the rod! I like that more moderate action on big cranks but would not choose and 8`er for that! Handy
