Posts: 123 | Hey guys just wondering if someone could shed some insight. I know basically nothing about motors. Just this past weekend, I was up on plane driving for probably 7-8 mins at full throttle. Then it seems like the rpms drop for a split second, or the motor loses a bit of power briefly, and then it continues to drive like normal for 30 secs, or 15 secs, or a min even...but the problem remains. It's only slightly noticable. You can hear it when it happens. I use premium gas, and put stabil (the daily use type) in at every fill up. I don't know if I should be concerned with anything, or just winterize and see what happens next spring? thanks for any help u can offer...

Posts: 123 | Thanks Shep. One thing I forgot to add is that when I start the motor up cold, if I put it in gear too soon it will conk out. That has been happening for months and months...but then things run fine once it's warmed up I guess. Is that indicative of any of the things you mentioned? The bulb is very hard. I'm gonna compare it to some of my buddies boats and see if that's the way their's are too. Maybe that's the issue. How would water get in the fuel?

Posts: 5874 | Bulb is supposed to be hard. Water in the fuel where you bought it? That's the most common way it gets in there. How old is the motor? How many hours? have you checked/changed your plugs? Edited by Shep 10/28/2013 2:04 PM

Posts: 123 | It's a 2008 if I remember correctly. I have not checked the plugs. I'm not sure how to check the hours. I always wondered what ppl are talking about when it comes to this.

Posts: 3508 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hiya, I would agree with Shep, that a dirty fuel filter or water in the fuel is the issue. One way to check...get a remote tank with its own line and test it with fresh gas. Depending on the age of the fuel line and bulb, it could be going bad as well. Start with quick things and see what you can figure out. Gut instinct says dirty fuel filter and it is just starting to show the signs of clogging and it is beginning to starve the engine for fuel.

Posts: 480 | I have the same motor 2010 model year. This summer i noticed a crack in fuel line (on the flange near the pressure bulb) with gas seeping out only when the hose was flexed. No issues with stalling. Maybe check this easy fix as well?

Posts: 123 | Can the fuel filter be clogged, even if it doesn't look clogged? I took it out and inspected it, but it looks clean. At least to the visible eye. If I were to replace the filter element, should I replace the whole fuel filter while I'm at it?

Posts: 49 | If you have an inline fuel/water separator and it's never been changed, it could be your problem. My four stoke does the same thing once the filter media becomes saturated.

Posts: 1096 Location: Hayward, WI | Replace fuel filters (should be 2), new spark plugs and fresh gas. If still having problems would recommend bringing it to a dealer to hook up to computer to see if any faults are present.

Posts: 123 | where would a 2nd fuel filter be? I don't see any mention of that in the maintenance book...

Posts: 1096 Location: Hayward, WI | It is an inline filter, it is a hard line that goes to the round distribution manifold by the fuel injectors. It is hidden in a plastic sleeve.
