Location: South Central Wisconsin | I did a search here and some guys are modifying their shallow invaders by running wire through the back eyelet and placing the rear hooks back an inch or so. What size wire are ya using for this and is anyone shrink wrapping the hook straight back? |

Location: Pewaukee, WI | I used .051 wire, but you could easily use lighter wire which would making the bending configuration much easier. You could shrink wrap the rear hook if you so desire, but is it necessary? I don't think so if the the hook is placed an acceptable distance back. |

| You can use 0.51 wire, I used 174 lb and upsized the hooks to 4/0 shortshanks. I found it suspended with the 0.51 and upgraded hooks, so I switched to the 174 lb. It still rises on the pause, just a little slower than stock ones. The lighter wire is easier to bend as well. I have seen where someone added another split ring to the front hook to hold the wire, which makes it easier to change out the wire when it gets bent up beyond repair. |

Location: KY | Useing lighter a wire will keep a more level rise. Heavy wire makes the bait rise head up / tail down. |

Exactly! I learned that they don't help action and now simply hook the rear treble into the rubber, adding another split ring once the rubber gets too tore to attach in that spot anymore. I think I have 3 or 4 looped wire extensions built for extending the hooks on S Invaders that I've since removed and you could have them if you'd like, Randy. |

| I like to just remove the rear hook and add a 7/0 3551. "T" that hook. Make sure you set up your "T" so that the hook will lay flat next to the bait.
The wire method works as well. You can also drill a hole in the thing and fill it with resin or foam to add density. Pencil lead works too. Lots of choices on this front if one is so inclined... I like swapping the tail on mine, but I also like MI's original tail. Cool bait, versatile. |

What type of oval split rings do you use?
Before is on the left, after on the right. Note the eyelet is in line with one of the hooks. Worth makes ovals. Poke around on ebay and you'll see other brands too.

could you take a pic of how you have them set up when fishing. I have 7 new shallow invaders that I was planning on doing the wire extension with but would like to see yours with the oval ring and "T" hook. If I didn't have to mess around with adding the wire to the baits I would prefer that. I want to keep the action as close to original as possible.

Location: NE Wisconsin | I mainly troll with S. Invaders. I use the wire extention to get a better hook sepration. Here are a couple of issues I learned to avoid. First, especially if using thin wire, but any wire also, the wire will some times work into the split ring. Solved by using a small solid ring on the back end of the wire, then a split ring. Secondly, keep an eye on the wire, especially if using thin wire. With use and after every catch, check wire. It will wear and break where is bends at the back of the rear hook loop. Thin wire failed on me a couple of times!!! I have heard some using just one large treble in the front with very good success, but have not tried it. Good thread with great ideas. |

Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | I normally run .041 or .045 wire for the extension of rear hook. I start that wire run on the first hook eyelet by the head and for casting models often will add a brass bucktail body on the wire between the two eyelets. I find this helps level the bait, makes it more netural buoyant. I did not like the rudder affect of heavier wire. With the counter weighting you can stop the bait and it will hang, twitch on slack line and it will move forward an inch and dance. These are great baits, we always have fish caught on them every year! |

You don't have to T the hooks either, jest poking the back one into the tail improves hook ups and keeps um from tangling.
I like the oval rings cuz they run by default on the double keeping the wire union to the side. Using only one sets the treble back about a 1/2 inch without having to use a monster sized split ring. |
