I am thinking of replacing many of my hooks on my baits.
Been losing a lot of fish lately - could be a bad streak / could be me / who knows???
Anyways - need some advice on style and size of hooks for:
- mag and pounder dawgs
- 10" tubes
- cowgirls
- super stalkers
- bondy baits

Thanks!
Was leaning towards mustads but was wondering about VMC or gammies.

I don't think your problem is your hooks as long as they are sharp. Others are catching fish on the stock hooks so unless the bait has damaged hooks I don't think I would get into a wholesale replacement program. That being said SOME baits benefit with larger hooks and some 8 inch baits can be improved by going from 3 small hooks to 2 large hooks. Most good manufactures would have spent some time working out what works on their baits.

You may have other problems and you should go and see the gypsy and have her cast the bones and read the chicken entrails

Agreed. You might want to check your rod and line or your hooking technique.

Black nickel hooks are great. Don't think you can get them in a.pounder size but can for alot of baits. I have good hooking success with them. Very sharp.

All the baits you mentioned have good hooks factory. Like others said sharpen sharpen sharpen. And make sure your rod has a decent tip on it with some give. Now a days you can get the right setup for almost any bait. You need enough back bone to drive hooks in bit enough give in the rod to absorb an fight fish.

+1. Crap happens and sometimes it happens in bunches.

There should be no need to replace the hooks on a Bondy Bait, just be sure to sharpen them. You can increase your hook-ups by adding a hook on top. Cut the welded hook off at the middle of the bend then remove the split ring for the line tie, place the hook on then put the split ring back on.

Another thing that can cause you to lose fish on a Bondy is using too stiff of a rod. I don't use anything stiffer than a Heavy powered rod. A few seasons ago I used my XH TI rod for the season (because my POS BR rod kept having the guides crack or pop out) & lost far too many fish on it. I went back to using a Heavy rod & also used a TI MH rod that worked good as well. Actually the few times I used the 9' MH TI rod I never lost a fish.

Send me a MSG Landry and I'll set you up with a Gypsy, not sure if he'll help your hook ups but he'll help you with your fashion/style and does a mean job of cleaning/detailing cars.

I lost most of my fish and two giants last summer on dawgs and hardheads - big baits.
Tough summer for sure. Likely just a bad run. I always sharpen hooks and have been musky fishing hardcore for 8 years.
Was kinds wondering if gamahatzu hooks were noticably better.
I am likely over analyzing things as usual. Winternet.

Try the same baits in a smaller size. Less weight for the Muskie to swing around on the headshake. Also more hook less rubber so easier hook sets.
