So I recently came into some nice Cedar which I decided to cut with my Step Dad to make a few jerk baits. I've got the cedar shaped and othe than some finishing sanding, it is ready for the next steps. My problem is I've never really done a lure like this before.

A few details: I've sawed the blanks in half with the intention of doing through wire construction via the gluing them back together with epoxy.

My big question is on the action. How would folks suggest weighting something like this? I'd like the bait to run shallower for milfoil, but I'd also like it to have "some" hang time. Also, what are suggestions for the back metal fin a la tuning? If I wanted it to have a bit of wobble on the rise, what sorts of things should I think about doing?

This is a for fun project for me, the ultimate would be if I get something to eat one of them. Any tips are greatly appreciated.

Most baits that style dont have through wire due to the shape. Being its wider than tall you don't have a lot of surface area to glue. This also limits your weighting due to you will be putting it in the seam crated by the through wire. I have made a few of this style bait and it's not easy to make something that doesn't look like a copy of a suick or bobby bait. My only advice is make a bunch of different ones to bring out with you and hope that one works for you. The rest makes great starter for bond fires. Lol. Good luck
