Posts: 270 Location: brooklyn park mn | I have a 2001 triton tr 21 that came with triton 3 bank charger. The 3 bank charger lights up green 2 of 3 (trolling motor batteries). 3rd one hit or miss. Found out starting battery needed to be replaced before winterizing boat so put new battery in. Does anyone know if this is a good 3 bank charger to use/problems etc.? My 2 trolling motor batteries are OPTIMA® Batteries 8052-161 - D31M Group 31 BLUETOP® Dual Purpose batteries. Had one outing in Canada where it was windy and lasted 7 hours and drained dead. Usually can go 11+ hours before dying. Has anyone had problems with these batteries? Trying to figure out if batteries are going/not good brand or charger sucks or is problem. Also what 3 bank minkota charger would u guys reccommend if its the charger? Trolling motor Batteries about 3 seasons old. Any help would be apprecciated.

Posts: 192 | I have a 2000 Triton 189. Had to replace my 3 bank charger about 2 years ago. One of the three banks quit charging correctly. At first I thought I had a battery problem but turned out not so. Worked great and charged quickly for the first 12 or 13 years I had it so not complaining too much. I've never used that brand of batteries, so can't comment on that.

Posts: 139 | Personally, i don't care for minnkota chargers because they were so big and heavy. I found the same bank chargers in Dual Pro and Guest that are smaller, potted and probably just as high or higher quality. I have a guest 2 bank now for my trolling batteries and its been the best charger i have ever used. Its a 10/10 and works great. It should work well with your batteries but always check to see what kind of batteries they charge.

Posts: 5874 | Could be the one bank is bad for the starting battery. As for the TM batteries. Newer chargers have different charging profiles, depending on battery technology. Wet-Cell, AGM, and Spiral technology have different profiles, and the old chargers are not up to the new batteries. MinnKota has come out with a couple new lines of chargers. Digital and Precision series. Much smaller footprint and weight than the old MK series. The digital series is 10A per bank, and the Precision is 15A per bank. Digital control, and lots of features. Check them out. Can't go wrong with Guest or Dual Pro, either.

Posts: 270 Location: brooklyn park mn | Thanks guys. Looking into dual pro 3 bank and minn kota 335 precision control 3 bank now. Ive seen better reviews on dual pros but the new precision control series has me curious. How much faster will 15 amps per bank vs 10 amps per bank charge a battery? Just curious.
