I have two questions. Sorry if you find them dull.

1. Has anyone ever tried chumming for Musky? Has there been any studies with respect to how they react to blood in the water?

2. I know it varies a little, but after we cut hooks, how long does it take for that hook to dissolve/ disintegrate? Are there better hooks than others with respect to this?

Thanks everyone!

When cutting hooks you should really try to get all of the pieces left behind out of the fish, in most case when you cut it the tip will fall out, but sometimes they need a little help.

To question number 1, I have no idea. Maybe a biologist could chime in to tell us how well muskies smell.

Regarding the hooks, I agree with bdog. Try to remove the cut pieces unless you are fairly sure that removing them will cause serious damage to the fish. Hooks don't really rust and dissolve away in fresh water, especially not musky hook sized ones. Probably likely that the fish would either die from old age, infection from the hook, or hopefully have the area get irritated/infected and push the hook back out.

Normally, after the hooks are cut apart the individual pieces come out fairly easily.
