Location: Illinois | While northern Illinois had a rough winter, it's still going strong in northern Wisconsin. Having had such a severe drought, will this years snow pack give a major lift to the water table. Will lakes like Windpudding be full?

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Quite a bit of the snow depth we had here was low in moisture content. Not the case with the 11 to 15" coming over the next day or so. |

Location: minocqua, wi. | Windpudding has been down for almost 10 years now … i drive by quite a bit and although it's coming back, it's been slow. Imagine the home-owners still pay lakefront property taxes. I sure hope the seepage lakes recover, the past two winters have sure helped but it was an 8 year drought so imagine it could take a few more of these. this one should sure make a dent though! |

| At the end of the drought, there was a story on the news that the ground water table in Oneida County was down 47 inches below normal. Last summer it was still well below average. Hope this snow helps but to do so it has to melt slow and sink in. I am on a flowage but seeing some of the seepage lakes, you just have to feel for the property owners.

I sure feel awful for those lakeside property owners!
Haven't they suffered enough? We should start a fundraiser or something. Give back to all the lakeside property owners that have done so much for us. |

| Well, on our chain, the property owners help maintain the launch, pay for and install all the channel markers, replace them as needed. Comes out of the lake association dues. The DNR pays nothing. And yeah that does benefit non property owners. I could negotiate the channels without the markers, and I know where the boulders are. So do most other property owners. |

Same by us. Amazing how many visitors assume it is "their tax dollars" that take care of these items.

| The landing is on township land (the one the lake property owners pay a lot of taxes to), a muskie club put in the dock and members of the association clean up. No government dollars at all. Every time I volunteer to check boats, I spend time cleaning up the trash folks leave, everything from mono snarls, to whiskey bottles, to fast food bags. Because it is not maintained by a government entity, there is no trash barrel, so a lot gets tossed right on the ground or in the water. The local club puts in and takes out the dock. They built a great sign board with a roof for notices, etc. But again, no government dollars at all. You might be surprised how much of the work on lakes and landings is done by private parties, and not your tax dollars. And as I said, every year we spend time and money on the channel markers. Takes several days for a group of volunteers from the lake association, resetting anchors, straightening heavy iron poles, etc.
