Hi all,

I'm new to fishing muskies, but my brother and I plan to give it a solid go this summer. We live in west central MN, but are willing to travel to where ever the fish are biting. Any proven hot spots out this way?

Thanks,
Joey

All the designated musky lakes in that area will be great places to fish.

Yep

If you're in Western Minny than you are close to at least one top tier fishery. Not really any 'bad' musky lakes out there. Just do some research and figure out what lake(s) is closest to your location and start there. Use the MN DNR website to search which lakes are stocked with muskies for each county near you if you're not sure on what lakes have muskies in them. It also would be a good idea to go over nets and release tools and maybe watch a video so you're prepared to safely land and release a fish before you ever hit the water.

Good luck

You have allot to choose from. pick up the Minnesota musky fishing map guide it has over 50 lakes marked with a good place to start.

Try using the search feature... just enter a lake name - most have already been discussed here on MF, many to the Nth degree! I loved fishing Cass, its got some crazy structure, cabbage beds, and a reef or two! If you can't find fish on Cass, you should try taking a class or just let someone else do the boat driving.....

Have fun!

Hiring a guide for a day would be money well spent. It can save you a lot of time and gas and maybe even give you some insight as to what gear you will want to spend your hard earned dollars on.

Cass. My favorite muskie lake in the state. Natural fish, wild, and gorgeous. I spend five weeks there every summer.

Just watch your steps if you need to take a "break" on some of Cass Lake's smaller islands...

Fish where the fish are. They seem to be more active in those areas.
