Posts: 410 Location: With my son on the water | Which motor would you guys go with? The 4 stroke weighs 455 lbs & the Opti weights 431, so that is really not an issue. The opti has an oil resivoir which takes space in the boat and the 4 stroke doesn't. Fuel milage will be ver close. The boat I am considering is rated for a 150. It appears the price is about the same. Thanks ![]()

Posts: 246 Location: Grand Marais, MN | I'd go four stroke too. Obviously a little more maintenance involved in terms of oil change and all, but quieter and less smokey, which I much prefer. no need to buy 2 cycle oil.

Posts: 32926 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The Opti will be faster and is as clean burning as the 4 stroke. The 4 Stroke will be less noisy, and will do a great job, I was very impressed when I ran that motor. Either would be a great choice, but if it was me, I'd buy the 4 stroke.

Posts: 192 | I have a 150 Optimax. I cast 95% of the time but I do three or four late fall trolling trips every year. Not enough times per year to warrant a kicker motor, so I just use the big motor. Trolling can be rough on it though and makes a mess of the $26 per each spark plugs. For that reason I am considering 4 stroke on my next boat. Is the Verado version worth the extra dollars compared to the regular four stroke? Looks like the Verado 150 is 55 lbs heaver. I would have assumed it would have been lighter.

Posts: 45 | As a 150 Opti owner, above points are valid. Optimax has a lot of giddy up but not a trolling motor. curious how much more the V-Rod would be?

Posts: 222 | As my other post I am looking to repower my 2002 Tuffy 1760 Osprey if I got with Mercury again what would be my best option just the 150 4 stroke or the heaver Verado seen the specs on both just not sure if the Verado weight would hurt me or if its worth the extra $$ for 1 week of casting and 2 weeks or trolling on LOTW. Thanks Darren

Posts: 24 | As with any 20 year old boat, I would have a inspection of the hull done by a 3rd party before entering into a contract to upgrade your motor. I know 1992 does not sound like a long time ago, but that boat is in its 23rd season. Don't let the selling dealer do it, he just wants to sell the motor.

Posts: 63 Location: Madison, WI | To put a slight twist on things...What if your boat has a 125 HP Capacity? So, your options are a 125 OptiMax, or a 115 4-stroke? Edited by CnR_Angler 2/21/2014 10:44 AM
