For rubber (mag dawgs, tubes, Bondy baits) and big blades? The Big Dawg or Big Nasty? I want to take advantage of this deal @ Gander Mountain while it lasts.

If I had to choose one rod in my boat for the next five years it would be a Big Nasty. Best rod I've ever used and very smooth and effortless on the 8s, even with big blades, which makes a huge difference on long shifts.

I was hoping more people would say the Big Dawg. A 9' one piece will not fit in my rod locker lol

I have both and the Big Dawg will be good. The Big Nasty might be better all around but the Big Dawg doesn't take a backseat to it at all.

I use my big Dawg for all you mentioned and love it. Haven't tried the big nasty, but have to say i really really like my big dawg, for anything from dc10, to pounders to big cranks and jerks.

Big Dawg unless you have a heavier rod already then the Slingblade

I'm guessing that the game changer here is if you are going to throw pounders or not? If not, you won't have any problems throwing mag dawgs size baits with a Big Nasty IMO and would probably get a better hooking success percentage with a less stiff rod. Although, I have a Big Dawg myself, that I've only had to chance to use a couple of times so far, but seemed to be pretty awesome.

I would agree with the pounders being the deciding factor. I throw them fine with my Nasty but the Big Dawg might take less effort to throw them but I can't see it being better than the Nasty for the variety of other lures. I use my Nasty for everything but Mammoth Curly Sues and jerkbaits.

1. Nasty
2. Sling Blade
3. Big Dawg
In that order. Replace the Bondys with Pounders and you can reverse 2 and 3.

Definitely not throwing pounders. There is no need for them in my local NJ waters.

Brian if you are not throwing Pounders, I think the 8'6" Singblade is all you will need as it throws Mag Dogs Fine...Mike Or there's the option of another TI telescopic in a XXhvy that will throw whatever big stuff you have, and still have money in your pocket to buy more of my Baker Baits. lol

Yeah Mike I may go for the Slingblade only because the Big Nasty will not fit in my rod locker. What Baker baits do you have left I have a brand new 9' TI xxheavy if you want to trade lol.

Brian, my choice is the Big Dawg. It's just a matter of personal preference as I think the Sling Blade would be a decent 2nd choice.

I would not be using mag dawgs on my sling blade..

Love the rod, and i use it alot, but I use it for showgirl sized bucktials, topwaters, and jerks..
I have 2 much heavier rods I use for mags and pounders and bigger bucktails..

Big nasty will throw it all.. From a small bucktial to a pounder..
If you're worried about length, I'd rather have a big dawg than a sling blade personaly for cowgirls, and mag dawgs

I have been pondering the same thing all winter....I also threw the Sling Blade into the decision process as well.  I have decided on the Big Nasty this year.  My buddy is buying the Big Dawg this year and I imagine I will add it to the arsenal next year.....or I will use his since he doesnt catch any fish anyway!

Brian Ive moved plenty of fish on pounders with not much time throwing em. Got a fish this fall on one they work... Netted my buddy jays 36 on a mag dussa in july. I break the big dawg out in the fall. Sling blade is my workhorse rod n loove it! Big nasty looks and felt really nice at the show...Can you fit an 8'6 in that locker? 9 is always tuff to fit...

Matt - Thanks for the input. My buddy just told me his 8'6" would not fit in my rod locker, it's OK though I will probably just have to make a slight mod to the boat to make it work. I got nothing against pounders, I just have one bum shoulder, I really don't need two. I think I will get more use out of a Sling Blade than a Big Dawg. I want to pair this rod up with a high speed reel for bringing in slack line and burn double tens at the same time. If I choose to throw the bigger stuff at some point I always have my Jerk which I hear can handle pounders pretty well.
