Posts: 12 | Hey all. I've been lurking for a little while and thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Chris and hail from central Ohio. I am also a new muskie fisherman so looking to just hang out and learn all I can. One thing I was wondering was about the focus on muskie...are they better to catch than pike for some reason?

Posts: 531 | For myself they are much more rewarding to catch compaired to pike, don't get me wrong getting pike is fun but I will take 1 average musky over 10 average pike in the same trip.

Posts: 69 | muskies get bigger and tend to inhabit shallower ( more fun casting water) at larger sizes than pike.

Posts: 441 | Welcome Chris; Muskies are much harder to catch, which makes them more alluring. Muskies smell "sweet" compared to stinky northerns. There's nothing more exciting than seeing a big "blonde torpedo" come out of the gloom, and run down your bait!

Posts: 192 Location: Quebec, Canada | Welcome buddy! Muskies are much stronger IMO and most definitly harder to catch and so it's a greater challenge. Edited by Drakl 2/9/2014 6:46 AM

Posts: 455 | Most Pike waters are stunted unfortunately. You really need to get out there in the wilderness to find anything good. Muskie fishing on the other hand is good in major metropolitan areas so therefore is more popular.

Posts: 12 | Thanks guys! I am dying here waiting for soft water. I am not an ice fisherman and we are having a particularly cold winter like everyone else. The lake is nothing but ice end-to-end. Cannot WAIT to get out.
