Posts: 1936 Location: Eau Claire, WI | Prices are close to $2/gal. with no relief in site soon. Today there is a refinery burning in NYC. With fuel prices on the rise how/if will this effect your fishing this summer? I know I wish I was running a 60hp tiller again instead of a 175... I do have my 9.9 kicker...guess I can use that if it gets too bad..:)

| Nope! One of the first things southern peeps learn is how to "borrow" petro for emergency situations!;) If it gets that bad, I'll walk down to the river below the hootch here and jerk trout 'til the prices go back down, or perhaps get an early jump on hunting season.... | |||

Posts: 492 Location: Lindenhurst, Illinois | It won't change my fishing habits. The only thing I can say is thank God I bought a 4 stroke when I bought my boat two years ago.

Posts: 938 Location: NeverNever Lake | Never thought of myself as an economizer but things seemed to have worked out in my favor. I got a small truckster that gets 16 mpg towing my 9.9 4 stroke that gets incredible milage,like 12-14mpg. In the former life it was big v-8's and 2 strokers. Edited by RAZE1 2/21/2003 2:24 PM

Posts: 3926 | Not much as I am very lucky to have lots of good waters nearby. I recently bought a gas sucking 94 Ford F-150 8 banger, and man I hate using all that gas. Next vehicle will be another 6, probably another Jeep.

Posts: 129 Location: Bemidji, MN- | Gas prices won't affect me at all. I'll fish closer to home, closer to the launch and drift or use the electric rather than run all over the lake. Actually, I think concentrating on disecting spots rather than running and gunning may result in better production anyway.

Posts: 12 Location: northern, MN | it might effect me a little, since i don't make a large amount of money to begin with. i do live within 20 minutes of some good lakes, i just might have to put my canada trip off and stick closer to home until we take care of our middle eastern interests.

Posts: 1438 | Hadn't really thought much about it. I don't think it will bother me too much. Think about it this way, if gas prices go up 50% that means it will cost 60 bucks to drive north instead of 40. Round trip a difference of 40 bucks. Now if the resorts/hotels start raising rates because of a lack of business, or if gas prices double??? Now that could be a different story. I'm lucky enough to run a 25 Merc. I ran all last year on about 25 bucks worth of gas so that's a non issue. Whatever happens, may God Bless America... Scott

Posts: 2091 Location: Stevens Point, WI | I plan on fishing the local area a little more if the gas prices stay where they are at or higher, fortunately my Ranger still gets around 14 mpg towing my boat.

Posts: 87 Location: Brainerd,MN | It won't effect me much. Except when I'm fishing Mille Lacs. You tend to put on a few extra miles. It just means I'll have to cut back two [no, wait, let that be one] pizza a week for gas. Lunker

Posts: 1536 Location: God's Country......USA..... Western Wisconsin | Can't really let it effect me much. Just have to cut back a little somewhere else. I will be fishing as much his year as in the past. Thinking about a slight increase in guide fees however. Haven't done anything yet though. Hope the darn stuff don't go up too awful high. Will put a dent in the pocket book for sure.

| Gas is fuel, just like the food we eat. It's just something we have to have to survive. I will not change my habits at all. Of course if you have fished in Canada, we are still paying less than our northern neighbors. On hind site, maybe shouldn't have gone to the 225 motor this year, oh well. Good luck, Murph | |||

Posts: 364 Location: Kentucky | yeah, it will affect me. Two hour drive one way to the closest lake, pulling a Tuffy Renegade and using a two-stroke Yamaha 150. You bet. Those are some expensive drives. I'll bitch, but still go.

Posts: 1247 Location: On the Niagara River in Buffalo, NY | I will trailer to launches closer to where I plan to fish for the day,instead of the full throtle distance run to the hole.Sure glad I have a Honda 4-Stroke 15 hp for trolling,all day sunup to sundown on less then 3 gallons.Price on land here is very close to $2.00 per gallon for 91 octane and up,will be close to $2.25 per gallon on the water this spring for sure.I had to adjust my Charter Rates by $20 more on the 1/2 Day and $40 more on the full Day's for 2003.Most of the increase was due to Liability Insurance increases imposed after 9/11,almost doubled. Posts: 585 Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland | It certainly will. I'm in the market for a new truck to pull my small boat. Gas is one of the considerations for which one to buy. Instead of a big boat, I'll buy the S-10 sized vehicle. Only $20,000+ to catch fish!
| |||
| Made me change from a 200 EFI to a 175 Optimax on the new boat. | |||

Posts: 105 Location: Kawartha Lakes, Ontario | It now costs me $82 to fill up my truck with gas. My next truck will definately be diesel. It's a good thing I can fish all day on $10 worth of gas in my boat. However, the high fuel costs will not affect my fishing. I'll stop eating before I stop fishing. Keep your hooks sharp.

Posts: 642 Location: mount prospect illinois | Gas affect my fishing? ........naw!!!! I can honestly say that because i have other things that will affect my fishing 10 times more than high gas prices this year. TWIN BOYS!!!!!! Yep, due early May so i dont think gas will be a major issue with me. So when you are at the pumps complaining about the gas prices...think of me!!! And make a few casts for me cause i wont be making as many as i would like. I will be busy raising lil muskie fishermen so they will be dragging ME out the door to get on the water. Easy trade off in the long term.

Posts: 157 Location: Wausau/Phillips WI | Every weekend in summer I make the 250 mile round trip to the cottage. At this $1.72 gas price if I take the F150 4x4 truck it will cost $26.21 and if I take the van it will cost $21.62. Add about $2 more this year than last for boat gas and it is only approximately $8 more than last year. That couldn't stop anyone, could it? Buddy
