USPS Priority mail for around $30. They say they will not take it online but they will. BUT you have about a 1 in 3 chance it will get broken and the USPS does not honor their insurance policy.... Almost 10 years shipping and not one of my USPS insurance claims has ever been paid. Best bet is to ship with FedEx but now your talking about $90-$110 for shipping.

Just curious James do you pay extra for this insurance that USPS does not honour?

Do you have any Canadian dealers? At one point there was going to be one but he had no stock.

Yes, worst case was I paid for $400 in insurance for a $366 shipment to the Netherlands that got lost. Even the post master for the Netherlands sent me a letter stating the package never entered their boarder and the USPS still said it was delivered even though the tracking said it stopped in Amsterdam. What was so surprising was that the local USPS carriers gave me a check for $200 out of their own pockets because they felt so bad about the situation and at the time I was teh #2 shipper in Oskaloosa, IA. THAT was customer service but I denied taking the money from them as they are hard working and it should come from the USPS not thier carriers! Since that situation about 5 years ago I have not shipped about $250,000 with the USPS and found other carriers. My guess is that they have lost well over $366 in profit I am going through this again with the USPS right now. 12 weeks in and still no insurance paid. I even have a USPS sales rep on my side and she is getting very disgusted with the claims department.

Rant over... I am working on a Canadian dealer right now but its not setup yet. Once that happens I will post the info on my site and here. What most guys do is have me ship to an address near the boarder and then drive over and get a bunch of rods or have a buddy who is coming up to fish bring the rods to them. I just shipped 15 to a guy in Int Falls who bought for his buddies.

James, you must be the reason stamps are going up again!! You stopped using them, now they have to recoup that money somehow.

Just sent a 7'7" rod from who to wv 2 day priority mail. It took 15 days to arrive and was broken completely in half upon arrival. I only insured for $100 so I lose big on this deal. Cost me $33 to ship on top of that. Never again usps!!

Usps sucks, broke 5 different tubes in a year and a half. Never got a refund even when insured. Go with FED EX

If you use the postal service Put the rods in thick PVC Tubes there is no way they will break you just have to charge a few dollars for the tube and the extra weight.... But they will not break..Cardboard tubes are terrible...Jr

FedEx did a test on my cardboard tubes, takes over 200lbs of force to break one. With the -20to-40F I bet a PVC tube would not do well on a truck. Now in the summer, IMO PVC is the way to go but the tubes cost $10 each and it will drive up your shipping cost a lot.

Also think about going to a carpet store. They have super thick cardboard stock tubes that are lighter than PVC but probably just as strong...

Good point on the PVC tubes!!

Muskycat94, why didn't they refund you if you had insurance? I just put in a claim and am expecting a positive outcome. Can you let me know why I might anticipate a negative claim response?

In short, the USPS does not honor its insurance policies and from everything I read on the internet they never have. Nice thing is, you can't take the USPS to small claims court over things like this so they don't have to honor their insurance policies! Wonder why the USPS is going bankrupt and losing customers everyday. Really is sad as I know a lot of good hard working people who work for the USPS.

The Cardboard tubes that are wrapped in a swirl are the worst. If it takes a hard hit on one of the seams it will crack and fold open, Its like being Perforated..and that is the weak point...There are Very Thick One piece cardboard tubes that are real strong but they have to be purchased in a store like Home Depot.. Or just use a thick PVC tube you would have to swing it like a baseball bat and hit a wall to break it ........JMO

I received one rod through USPS and arrived broken. I filed the claim for the amoint I paid and after about a month they sent me a check for $15 more than what I claimed. I am not sure why they gave me more than I claimed, but I wasn't going to complain. With that being said, I have sold and shipped a few of my rods lately and I went with FedEx everytime. They gave me the best quote and all rods I shipped arrived safely.

FedEx 100%. I have had issues with every claim with UPS. They pay but make you work 30-45 minutes per claim so it just was not worth it to work with them. SpeeDees is also a great shipping company if you are in the Midwest.

PVC tubes are not always the answer either. I had 4 rods break in shipment through USPS...took 6 months for refund but I finally did get it...no more shipping through them!
