Posts: 2017 | 8's, 9's 10's ...don't care give me one of the three sizes, in any color you want....spots and how you fish them and your execution boatside are 100x more important than "the tail" on LOTW....I'll always freely give up the bait I just caught a fish on to anyone in the boat.

Location: Contrarian Island | definitely my Gerrys Girl w 9s, chartreuse and black. in 4 days in 2011 it put 12 of the 13 skis I caught in the net.... had some hits on it last year but I fubarred those! d'oh! guess i'll disagree w justin on this one... while the spot is of course important that year i was fishing behind a very skilled angler and bringing up more fish he was not raising, and getting them to eat.. he would tell you the same that it was THE bucktail as at times bucktails can get a certain mojo to em that drives em nuts... seen it too many times... to say the spot is 100X more important? i'll go against the grain on that and debate that the size and color, can surely matter, as does speed, our boat had 2 x the hits last year as the other boat in our group, fishing the same water/spots, we fished them faster imo..

Posts: 300 | Thanks for the replies! My wife and I are hoping to make the trip this year, which will be our first. We both know that presentation and location trump everything else. We just want to make sure to prepared, and see if there are any trends in color, size, etc.

I like this post... Skill and science will always out weigh ignorance and luck... I'll play devil's advocate and disagree with both of the above. Fish long & hard enough or experiment with 3 to a boat and you'll eventually be witness to it. It's the wildcard that sometimes seems to trump skill and/or flawless execution.

Posts: 108 | To get back to the original question of the poster...I could fish all season with a heavy tandem Raddog spinnerbait in black orange skirt with flame blades. If it had to be an actual bucktail a copper/black skirt with double #9 gold blades if I could only have one. If I could have three I would also have a double #9 chart blades with black skirt, and a double #10 nickel blades with black skirt. These should work well for whatever water conditions you encounter. Actually you are agreeing with me, I didn't say it was just the spot...its the spot + how you fish it (speed of lure, length of casts, angle of casts, speed of boat, reading the water..on and on) AND your boatside execution...if I gave you an orange and black Gerry's girl and you fished it the exact same way would have you caught less fish? Maybe you catch two more?

Posts: 1084 Location: Aurora | x3 on the Gerry's Girl double blade tail. I remember reading an article/interview featuring D. Pearson discussing his top 10 baits for LOTW and Gerry's Girl was one of um. Lots of great information about the importance of colour & bait choice for LOTW too.

Posts: 572 | You may want to check out basement baits Subject: Couple new spinnerbaits Those are some good looking quality spinner baits. This topic and others regarding spinner baits make me aware I should throw more spinner baits. I use to. So, I am going to throw more this year. They do catch muskies..... that is what I like. Oops... sorry, I thought I had keyed on a spinner bait topic. Oh well, maybe spinner baits should be considered here too. A black with a single orange Colorado #5 blade might catch some muskies on LOW...... At least, if I was fishing the LOW, I would be throwing one like that.
