I've read some about the Lexa on here and have not heard many complaints.

I'm thinking about this for my wife. She uses a 250 series Okuma round reel right now, and is not comfortable palming the 400 sizes. She has tried both ways and prefers to palm the reel.

Would the 300 be more comfortable with smaller hands? Is the spool big enough to give decent line pickup (looking at the power model with lower gear ratio and 23.5" line pickup)? The 250 size round reels have such narrow spools that the beginning of the retrieve is slow due to reduced spool diameter after the cast.

Will it hold up ok to double 10 use (she's not going to be trying to burn them, just keep a decent pace)?

Does the disengaging levelwind bother anybody?

Thanks,

Tucker

Get her a 300 in the lower geared 5.1:1 or get her a 50 or 60 series Revo in 5.4 if she is throwing 10's. I'd be happy with either reel.

Also ck out the Okuma Citrix 350 in Black and the Komodo 350 in Gray, the Citrix is $185.00 retail, and the Komodo $219.00 retail.

I was considering the Okuma Komodo or Citrix for myself, but thought the gear ratios might be a little high for my wife to comfortably use all day.

I've had good luck with Okuma products, however.

The Lexa 300 with the 6.3 is recovering about 28", that's not super fast and is perfect for an all-around reel. She will love the magnetic cast control, backlashes will be a thing of the past and she'll want to throw 9" suicks into the wind all day. I've got six and each has over 200 hours. Other than the occasional minor cleaning and lubrication, that you have to do with any reel, they have been held up to anything from double tens to pounders.

I haven't tried the Komodo but will be adding a couple this year for sure.

Curleytail The Lexa 300 Is a Great Reel, I have had no Problems with it at all and is less money than all its competition. I have a 5/1 and 6/ 1 models and love them. Smooth reels that are great for casting. NO LINE OUT ALARM/CLICKER Ive had a few Okuma reels they are OK but IMO the Lexa 300 is my choice every time. Mike Sr

Thanks guys. Sounds like a good reel for what she'll be using it for. I was thinking of picking up a Saltist for me just for blades. Now I'm considering the Lexa 400 as an option. Think I may start a thread about that...

I had the Daiwa Lexa 300 in the 6:3:1 and I really liked it. Very well built and handled all my lures very well. I actually ended up selling it only because I also have a Shimano Curado 300 and the GRs are just so close (6:2:1 28"/turn, and 6:3:1 28.8"/turn). Selling was not not due to any performance issues and I have no issues suggesting that reel to anyone. My buddy that I sold it to has it on an 8'6" Mojo Musky and he just loves it and has had zero issues. For me it was a tough decision on which one I was going to keep as they are both outstanding reels. I later bought the Abu Garcia Revo Toro 50 in the 5:4:1, that is now my favorite reel out of all of them and I find that the GR is great all-around. I got it on E-Bay NIB for like $167 shipped in 2012. I have big hands and I still like the feel of the 50 over my other reels . I also have to agree with PM, that Okuma Komodo is an awesome reel, I will will be getting one this year and can't wait to throw it. More drag out the box (25lbs) than anything in it's class, stainless components and a 3 yr warranty (which nobody else is doing). It's a 6:4:1 GR with 31" per turn, available in L, R, and the power handle and built to saltwater specs.

All the best with your search, Green
