Posts: 1185 Location: Wishin I Was Fishin' | I just got a Calcutta back from Shimano today that I sent in to California for repair. I had five hard seasons on it and it was getting a little rough. They went through it completely, replaced the pinion gear, updated the drag, replaced the friction knob, and sent me two spare pawls I requested, ALL AT NO CHARGE. Talk about service! It sure is worth spending the extra cash for a quality product, backed by a quality company!!!!

Posts: 366 | Just out of curiousity did you send yours to California for any particular reason, meaning would I not get the same service from one of their local service representatives? My reels are in need of a run thru and I just wanted to know whether I should send mine to Cali, or feel comfortable with a local center. If Cal is more likely to replace things at no cost then I will definately send mine there, otherwise I'll stick to the local route Ryan

Posts: 199 Location: Anchorage | I sent in a junked Corsair last year 3 weeks before the opener and was told it would be fixed and returned within 4-6. Got it back 2 weeks later and has been as good a reel as I've ever since. I was thoroughly impressed. Elwood Brehmer

| Ponied up and got a Calais last year. Kinda light duty for Mooskies but it takes 50 lb power pro just fine. I think it will be years before it needs work and man does it cast a mile. | |||

Posts: 1023 Location: Lafayette, IN | My experience w/ Shimano is excellent as well. I just purchased an extra spool for my Curado last night in fact so it can be a dual purpose reel ( as I am too tight right now to purchase a Calcutta or even a 6500 C3.) I hope they (Shimano) do continue to serve me well because I've been discouraged by the bad press that the Catalas and Corsairs have gotten on this and other musky forums due to reported failures. I know I'll be concentrating more on drag setting than I ever have with these 2 "lesser" reels and I'm a stickler when it comes to drag setting. Anyway, Thanks for the good report on your service. Good companies deserve good press!

Posts: 259 | All my spinning reels are Shimano. The last two are top of the line. The third in use has hundreds of hours on it, and, it is still in my arsenal. I guess its time to buy a Shimano baitcaster. Thanks for waking me up.

Posts: 1185 Location: Wishin I Was Fishin' | I would recommend sending them to California over a local autorized facility. I just enclosed a letter with the reel and sent it attention reel service center. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA+++++++++++++++++++
