Posts: 230 Location: St Paul, Minnesota | I was reading the new December/January2014 issue of MuskyHunter and in Joe Bucher's "Tackle Revolution" article he states: "I recently tested a top secret prototype for St. Croix in an 8-foot-6 heavy power that was truly the finest rod I've ever casted...It was noticeably lighter in weight than anything else I've ever held yet more powerful." He mentions it is not yet available but will be "soon enough". The way I read this I don't believe he's talking about the new St. Croix Premier offerings being added for 2014, because we all already know about those. So this forces me to wonder if he's eluding to a (SCV) Legend Elite or LegendXtreme musky series. Any thoughts or better yet anybody "in the know" willing to shed a little more light on this??? -C

Posts: 403 Location: Lakeville, MN | I emailed St. Croix about that article this is what they sent back.. "St. Croix is always on the cutting edge when it comes to fishing rod design-that being said if we had such a rod in development it would not be available until at least model year 2015-----model year 2014 is already announced and no such rod is part of that model year. Model years start usually around Aug. or Sept. of the year so we’ll have to see what happens Aug./Sept. 2014."

Posts: 3 | I had a conversation with some of the guys at St.Croix this past summer about the musky rods ive been building using their surf blanks. In fact, i was picking up an avid surf blank to build a musky rod for a customer that day. We discussed the more moderate actions available in the surf blanks and its advantages with braided line and the lighter weight of the surf blanks. I have a 9'3" medium heavy musky rod I built on a legend surf blank thats so light feels like a bass rod and its performance is nothing short of amazing. While i dont have any idea what their Rand D department is up to, I really hope that St.Croix is thinking outside of the box on this one and offers something thats truly unique, at least to musky fishermen.

Posts: 230 Location: St Paul, Minnesota | Well today I confirmed my own belief, new for 2014 likely later in the season I think we'll be seeing a "Legend X/Legend Extreme Musky Rod series. I was watching "Fishing With Joe Bucher" and on his episode today under his segment "Feel The Steel" he was fishing with Rich Belanger from St.Croix and says he was using an 8'6" Long Ranger but his rod was a dark grey/black and the grips were black, definitely not the legend tournament that he claimed. He had other Legend Tournaments in the boat and you could clearly see the cork grip vs. the non-cork/legend xtreme style handle, also once he had the fish on and in the net there were a couple additional shots where you could clearly see the rod is not a Legend Tournament. I for one am excited and now have to decide if my two new rod purchases will be the Big Nasty and Jerk or if I'll hold out until the new series is available.

Posts: 673 Location: Twin Cities, MN | If they get it close to my original diamondback rod, I know I will be looking at one, my old diamondback is lonely.. That being said, I would think if they were coming out with something this year, I tend to believe it would be ready to sell at the shows.

Posts: 230 Location: St Paul, Minnesota | Pal - 1/12/2014 7:43 AM That being said, I would think if they were coming out with something this year, I tend to believe it would be ready to sell at the shows. Like all their new products I suspect St. Croix won't bring it to the shows because they have to unveil it iCast first. genesisperformance emailed St Croix and they told him model year 2014 is already announced and no such rod is part of that model year; they already had all their 2014 marketing done last year to support the product lines they released at iCast 2013. iCast 2014 is July 15-18 this year so we'll only get glimmers of the new rods until mid July if/when they're officially released. Model years start usually around Aug. or Sept. after iCast so if they are released under the 2014 iCast product line docket they should begin to be available later in the 2014 season.
