| I realize this has probably been asked dozens of times already, but I am looking to get my first Magnum Bull Dawg Rod and want to be sure to get the right one. I can not afford to make a mistake and buy a rod that will not work for me. I never threw pounders nor do I own one. I am looking to just throw Magnum Dawgs and Big Baits with this rod. And the reel I am using is a Curado reel hopefully this reel will work for big Rubbers? any help would be gratifying. Johnny |

| PM86HF is more than enough rod for the magnum bull dawgs the are not that big or heavy, I think you can even come away with a PM76MHF or when availabel 8' or 8'6"
Length does give you more control and a more forgiving casting weight range. |

Location: Central Wisconsin | Get an 8 1/2' XH full grip Tackle Industries rod! You won't be sorry! Excellent rod for mag dawgs and a lot of other baits also. The reel should be fine too. |

Tooth Tamer, Tackle Industries or Okuma EVX are all great rods in this price range. Personally I like the EVX full grip 8'6" XH. |

Location: Hayward, WI | I've been using TI rods almost exclusively the last few years and really enjoy them, especially for the price. I usually use the XH for Mag Dawg size baits, but the XXH would also be a good choice. The XXH is a powerful rod, but still have a soft tip that allows it to handle a wide range of baits. I've even thrown Cowgirls on it (which I consider a challenge with rods that are too stiff), and it handled them ok.
I've been using the 9 footers. The 8'6 will probably work well too, but I feel like due to the longer 18" handle, the 9' rods don't fish a whole lot different than most 8'6" rods. I might have to get an 8'6" for my wife though. I think they have a 16" handle and might be better for shorter anglers.

Location: Minneapolis, MN | You can't go wrong with an 8'6" XXH Mojo Musky. I'm only selling mine because I'm upgrading to a Predator. Having said that, it's a little out of your price range unless you get a used one. So if you're looking to go new and stay in your budget, your best bet is probably the Tackle Industries rods. I've never used one but people on this site sure seem to love them. |

I agree look at the MI rods . I would consider the 9' Monster mag . I know it's rated at 8-40 but if your throwing rubber I want a heavier rod to make sure I drive those hooks home and its just a matter of time before you grab a pounder and start throwing them.
This rod will cover both. And it's in your price range. I am a big fan of the Curado and throw up to a Mag Dawg on it, but would start thinking about a little heavier of a reel to handle the wear and tear of throwing and ripping big rubber . Just my opinion
