Posts: 365 | If you use small lures ,,, make sure you use long leaders because the musky will woof the whole lure into its mouth ,,, their mouth/head is around 25% of their total length ,, do the math on leader length ----- jim

Posts: 682 Location: Sycamore, IL | We seem to catch a couple muskies every year jigging for walleye and rarely get bitten off. When I intentionally target muskies with jigs I use a 50lb floro leader tied direct to my main line for added security. A 49 strand light LB wire should work as well. The most important thing for getting fish to the net on light equipment is to pay attention to your drag setting. I haven't used bass sized tubes for muskies...but they should work under the right conditions (if you can keep the bass off of 'em!) Good luck

Posts: 553 Location: 15 miles east of Lake Kinkaid | Bass tubes work very well for muskies. The Bass Pro brand tubes as well the Schuberts make great full-bodied tubes in the 3.5"-4.5" range. In response to Jim......muskies eat smaller baits much differently than they eat "musky-sized lures". Also with "Bass hooks" we, as anglers, are able to hook muskies differently than impossible with heavy gauge hooks. Small, light-wire hooks will often skin hook muskies in the beak or right inside the mouth, and these fish stayed hooked when played correctly. I catch 25-30 muskies every year on "Bass baits" with about 50% of these while I am actually fishing for bass. If you do use a leader, I have had a great deal of success using a very light (20-35lb single strand or seven strand) leader.

Posts: 5193 | MuskyMATT7 - 1/4/2014 6:16 PM Thats about the size Im looking for, thank you Matt.I fish one rod with fifty pound test no leader , always seem to get a few fish on this setup ,on small baits never had an issue as far as bite offs, or a muskie engulfing the bait.I do put vmc hooks on my crank baits.I personally dont use the lite wire hooks.I use the hooks that were used on the old rattlin shads, with Joe Bucher split rings.thanks again 0723.Bass tubes work very well for muskies. Posts: 1405 Location: Detroit River | I've caught a lot of musky while bass fishing on LSC with 4" Snack Daddy tubes. They are hand dipped with a tapered head so they dart more than straight tubes, which is what I like for bass & the musky seem to like them too.

Posts: 63 Location: Minnesota | Jim, I caught a 50.5 inch muskie on a texas rigged senko style worm. I'm sure a wacky will work as well. 4/0 or 5/0 EWG hook on a 5 or 6 inch worm will do the job. Use a MH spinning rod and a reel with good drag. Sght fish for them just like you would for bass.
